Decided that I want to see my cyclometer readings without having to remove the body. I masked off a "sunroof" so I could see inside:

++ Score on the sunroof! Borrowing that one!

Any chance on a pic for the undercarriage and see how the body fits?

...... I was looking to see how the body actually fit the chassis (underneath)...... I really "wanted" the body you got and might still get some day but I went with the Losi 3.0 Silencer just because of the "fit" - hoping the body will act as protection to keep the garbage out of the chassis

"almost" done building my backslash but have not even started painting the body yet - seems I work 3x more on them than driving them so far!

I might have to do something like you did with your receiver....... just waiting on motor (Losi 2800kv) which "SHOULD" fit

Got it. Sorry... I'll take a picture of it tomorrow when I have the time. This body is just under an inch wider than the chassis on each side. I actually wanted the space to let more air in to keep things cool. If not, I would have to open up the scoops on the body. It would be a pain to cut!

That looks awesome. I have that same body just sitting under my work bench waiting to be painted lol. Tried to do a test fit and I need to move the reciever somewhere else

Lol I'm talking about the chassis. Just no long ago you took it for a spin and it was all dirty. Now it's new again.

...Also in my pile of new, but unused parts... a VG Racing Rally roll cage for my Slash. Don't know if I like it yet. It sits kind of high and makes the rig too tall.

Can I see a picture of a G Loc right next to a Trencher? I have a set of G Locs coming, but they give no specs on their website. Once it gets cold again, I might order Trenchers too.

Have you noticed a negligible drop in temps with the cage versus a standard body?

The custom receiver box bracket... could you share the specs on it? I may see if I can have a friend build one for me but would need the dimensions to provide him. I really want to move my box to where yours is.

2: I have not run the cage on my rig yet. It is heavy and will most likely affect handling. I run VG Racing shock springs that are tuned for running their cages (for heavy rigs):

3: I've never really had a standard body so I have no idea.

4: I have no specs on the bracket. I just got a piece of paper and cut and bent it to what I wanted. Transferred it to scrap brass that I had at home. It is just sandwiched between the ESC and chassis. I wish my scrap were larger so I could have screwed it down with the ESC.

It's a little tough to tell but are those "side scoops" I see on the body? If so, are they functional (have cutouts to let air in) or just for decorations... say like, the hood scoop on some real-world vehicles? That's the best body I've seen to date for a Slash. It looks great!

Any chance you could snap a few pictures with the body off the truck? Perhaps also of the inside of the body?

The scoops are not functional, but they are if you cut them out. If the rig runs too hot, I can open two forward facing and one rear facing scoop on each side.

Hard to tell by my pics, but I purposely cut the lower front opening on the passenger side of the body wider to let more air in to help cool the ESC and motor.

Squeegie - Aside from the scoops, did you have to do any more cutting on the body? Also, how did you mount it (did it come with special mounting brackets)? And finally, did you run into any clearance issues on the inside with the motor, ESC, receiver box, etc.? It looks like a pretty 'slim' body.

For the front mounts, I used HPI mounts and cut them to fit.
For the rear mount, I used the piece that came with my STRC e-Buggy kit and an old mount I had in my parts bin.

The only thing I had to move was my receiver box since it was in the front center location. I moved it lower and towards the center. I also had to my my cyclometer, but that is unique to my build. Motor and ESC were fine.





What you see in the clear body picture I posted earlier was all that came with the kit (other than stickers and window masks).

I like that it is a "slim" body, but may be too slim. I like that with my MERV's Baja Bug body and my Slash's WarBAJR II body, I can roll the car and it would most likely keep on rolling until back on all fours. If not, no really damage since it just slides on a rounded lid. If I flip the RC8e body, I would most likely ground down my wing and/or damage my front end (axel carriers, pushrods, servo saver,...). Time will tell!

No real plans on anything right now.

It would probably affect handling since it is heavy, but my springs were designed with that extra weight in mind.
As for heat issues, I run the 1/8 scale MM2 and 2200kV motor combo. I don't think power would be an issue!

I had a friend fab me up a similar bracket for my receiver box. I still have to measure and drill the mounting holes and get it painted. The early mock-up has the antenna right in the way heh.

he runs an antenna-less receiver! futaba makes them and spektrum makes something similar but i don't think it's outright absent like the futaba. the ones i have seen have less channels on them though.

So...... You told me on another thread you are lowriding your street setup at 6-7mm; I can't figure it out

Once I get around 17-15mm with my shocks out to the second to last hole the shocks just don't bounce back very good anymore.

Can you share how you managed it?

Hmmmmm I just put these new Losi ten t's on and still don't know much about shocks.... Front seems good .... Bounce back sharp and settle quickly to the desired height.... Just the backs: push them down and bounce slowly/mushy and a little droopy......exact opposite if hold up and drop the back end.......

Going to put my GTR's back on and look for a difference

The VG Racing springs I run are progressive and shorter than stock.
That's the difference and probably why mine can sit lower.

Just read the whole build and wow what an impressive build. Great job is without a doubt an understatement. Sucks you don't get to drive it much. Will be subscribing mainly for some part numbers as there is a few things I want to change on my 4wd. But my 2wd needs some love first lol.

I finally mounted my MMX!

I started by cutting, bending, drilling tapping, scuffing, and painting a couple of brackets:









I had to hack the heck out of the Traxxas MM2 mounting bracket to make it fit, but it came out OK.
I decided to keep the power switch on the MMX. I'll just cut it off and solder the wires if/when it goes bad.













Now the only problem I have is with my Field Link Programmer. The one for my MM2 does not work on the MMX! I want to change some of the default settings on the MMX. Guess it's time to contact Castle Creations and find out if I need an undated Filed Link Programmer, or if something else is wrong...
