Personally I look through the clear plastic sides of the tank to see how much is left. I don't like introducing foreign materials into the fuel even though there is a fuel filter to catch anything.
Plus I don't store it with fuel inside; run it easily as it nears its last drops and let the engine die.

The only problem is with the Nitro Slash you cannot see the sides on the tank making harder to find out the amount of fuel left, so just thought I would share, and I don't store it with nitro either

What about that little nipple that proceeds off the bottom of the fuel tank and pokes through the bottom side of the chassis? I usually grab my car by the front bumper so its almost verticle and see if there is any fuel through that nipple. If it's clear I know it's al last out of fuel.
