new mini slash owner from norcal

Ive just purchased my scott douglas edition 1/16 slash from ebay and this is my first step into hobby rc, I've already purchased a second 1200 7.2v battery and parallel connector for longer run time from ebay as well. I'm curious to what quick chargers would be useful since I know it comes with the slow wall charger, and is there anything I should upgrade in the near future? thanks in advance!

I don't own a slash but I am guessing that RPM arms and a T-Bone bumper will help a bit.

I would recommend an onyx 235 charger. Dont charge your nimh batteries together. I second the t bone bumper.

The onyx 200 won't charge lipos later if you choose to go in that direction. Its your choice but I woul recommend buying a good charger the first time.

ahhh ok I'll just wait then

after looking at the 235 it's out of my reach, would the 200 be a good basic quick charger to get started just for now? I know the wall charger is gonna suck..

I recommend getting an "imax b6 ac" charger.... just search ebay.... it's a good charger at a great price.

sweet just grabbed one for 20

so I purchased the imax b6 and got the power supply cord, and took a second look to find out its not an ac model but it did some research and it can charge nimh batteries

what the difference between the regular 1200 7.2v nimh battery and the id version?

"ID" batteries have a special plug so a traxxas charger knows what type of battery you plugged in automaticaly. ID lipos also balance through the main connector.

If you are not using a traxxas ID charger, all you need to know is that for lipos with id, you need a special traxxas Id adapter, since ID lipos dont have separate balance leads. (The balance leads are built into the main I'D connector.
For nimh, you don't need to worry about it, they will charg with a standard traxxas plug.

plus I want this merv body

so I got this today and I'm still at work, can I go home now?!

my only complaint is the 27mhz version of the radio system

truck did well on its initial run but I definitely need lipos, and gonna switch to the 2.4 radio system

just ordered this body for my slash

this was more expensive but has the engine detail

quick question is there a fan for the titan 380 brushed motor? mine starts getting hot after running dual 1200mah nimh batteries for a bit. still all box stock, I'm asking now so when I switch wheels/tires I can keep an eye on the esc/engine temp from that too

so my mini slash doesn't like the weight of two nimh batteries and an action cam, rubs the rear fenders pretty bad and since I've got a new body on the way I'm gonna slice the rears and make this my filming specific body

any suggestions for stiffer springs until I get lipo?

With all that extra weight, especially since you are still running nimh, which is even more weight vs changing to lipo, I would say go go with revo or summit springs. The stiffest slash springs are #7143 double black 1.02 rate, the stiffest revo springs are #7148 black 2.22 rate , the stiffest summit springs are #7246 purple 3.2 rate.

What you get depends on the terrain you drive on. If you are bottoming out a lot over small bumps, you want a stiffer spring. You don't want to try to eliminate all bottoming, or you will go too stiff. At the same time you put the stiffer springs on, I would go with a bit thicker oil too.

    ok cool thanks!

so I don't wanna drill an antenna hole in my vw body I just got, would my signal drop if I just coiled my antenna cord under the body? I have a 27mhz mini slash, or should I just spend 40 and get the 2.4 conversion?

You will lose a lot of range putting the 27mhz antenna under the body. If you don't want an antenna sticking up, 2.4 is the way to go. Even though many 2.4ghz antennas are kinda long, only about the last inch is the actual antenna, so with those it's ok to coil most of it in side the radio box and use a short antenna tube to keep it under the body.

What size pinion are you using, did you just move it from the 380 to the 550? Your drive shafts should be fine. They can handle a lot more than a brushed 550

The upgraded GTR shocks 7061X are nice:
    https://traxxas.com/products/parts/7061X

    How's your handling?
Might want to get stiffer springs with that 550 weighing your rig down.
Probably top heavy as well. Sway Bars?

Did you ever run that crawler bug body?
    Pics if you got them!

Quick question... why did you get the crawler version instead of the one for the MERV?
The MERVs should just drop right on. Body dimples for body mounts in the right location.
The crawler looks like the dimples are on the sides.
The bodies are similar, but different. Did you get it for the "engine" detail on the back?
    Just wondering.

I almost got that one, but wanted to keep my wing.
I'm partial to the bug as well:

yea you gotta watch the steering input.... a radio with expo helps a lot, or just turn down the steering rate.... You could always upgrade to mini revo arms, driveshaft, pushrods, and toe links for the extra width its a slippter slope, this RC thing is.... "after THIS upgrade, I will be happy..." "Oooo, now I need this".... etc, etc.

Well, it wont be a slash anymore, but it does make it better for sure. You will get a lot more suspension travel, as well as a wider stance to help prevent rolling... its still possible to traction roll, but less likely.... You will want to go to revo springs too.

I doubt it was the motor that caused it, they put the 550 in the new ones with the same ESC.... Something failed somewhere and allowed/caused a short....
