    Project: Slash 6x4

At first, this all started as a trailer to haul around my slash 2wd. Only problem, the trailer ended up weighing a hefty 18lbs loaded. Unfortunately, my poor old tow vehicle (an old RadioShack hummer) was not able to pull it. The only logical option would be to drop a brushless in the hummer, right?! Well, I ended up dropping in a recycled VXL system from my slash into the hummer. Still not enough power, severe cogging and wheeling hindered all progress.
Thus, the idea for slash 6x4 was born! After collecting parts for a couple of weeks, I've finally gotten the project underway.
Build day 1: (and a half?)

Built the main plate between the two transmissions today. Top braces will be tomorrow and Monday. [IMG]http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/14/a95d8e48abce2c76f0fe263a9a0ccbb1.jpg
Painted a 66 ford body yesterday afternoon. [/IMG]
Next Step: build a flatbed for it. A friend made 1/2 inch slats out of walnut wood, angle aluminum will form the frame around them. Maybe stained dark red?

Buggy might sit on top of the truck.

Power system(s) will be dual VXL-3s 4-pole. And dual 2s LiPo (3s maybe someday)... this thing should be a monster!

    Update day 2:

This morning I made the top brace for the towers. An aluminum strap between the two rustler body mounts fixed quite a bit of flex. I will also put a tie rod in between the transmission and rear shock tower, which should also give it more rigidity.

A bit of weight and balance testing, stiff Integy springs work great under so much weight.

Tore apart the hummer this evening:

Then installed the 1st VXL in the 6x4. I will have to order another one. Unfortunately, now I have to find a new power system for the hummer. The old stock brushed system is completely fried, and an XL-5/Titan combo does NOT like to be in a 8lb 4x4 truck! Lol

    Day 3:

Update; Man this project is going fast! This morning I began working on the bed and body mounts.
I modified the mounts so they sit lower and they will accept magnets being glued on.

The flatbed is coming along nicely, the frame is bent and aluminum straps will go underneath for support. For fasteners I am not sure, pop rivets or countersunk screws?

AMAZING! How is the steering? Do you have the motors both on one ESC? How will that work

I haven't ordered a servo yet! I have one VXL system in there so far, but I will need to get another one soon. It will have 2 esc's, 2 motors, and 2 LiPos. The esc's will be hooked together with a Y-harness to the throttle channel on the receiver. The batteries will be plugged into a parallel connector which both esc's will plug into. That will make the batteries drain evenly, and not but a lot of stress on one battery.

    Update:
Fixed the holes in the back of the cab with some 1/10 scale diamond plate

The VXL-3s combo with 3500kv 4 pole velineon motors. I already had one combo, so why spend twice as much and get 2 sidewinders?

    Lol, i'm sorry man. I swear I read post #2... I swear...

This has not been my day. I am interested to see how this ends up. If it works well, I might mod my Slash to do this. My slash would be a tow truck though. I was looking at hydraulic pumps, pistons and the likes. Hmmm... great, i think i am going to do some more research and dread that I got no money.

VXL and 4-pole is already waterproof right?

I would love to see a tow truck... Mine tows a trailer! Lol
Speaking of which, I just completed attaching the trailer hitch! Made a triangle brace that meets the bed, and the trailer hitch fits right in the center.

Btw, does anyone have suggestions on tires for this beast? I will definitely be using the red and chrome wheels I have on it, they look great. Those stock BFG and Kumho tires also look great, however they don't get great traction. I was thinking maybe use the BFG tires but get the S1 compound instead? I would like the tread pattern to look as realistic as possible.

Currently working on a double roll bar for the back of the cab. It will serve as a way to connect the body with the flatbed. It also just looks cool!

I think the BFG's would do fine, I am not a fan of the Kumho tires at all. RC4WD makes some scale looking tires for SC wheels. They have some awesome looking Mickey Thompson replica tires.

Finished the roll bar. It was a very frustrating and grueling Sid-project, but now it is complete. At first I accidentally measured wrong, then some spacers didn't cut as I hoped, and finally some threads popped out of the rod when I was bolting it down. But nonetheless... here it is installed on the truck:

The s1 tires will be just fine traction wise for your application. Way better than stock slash tires. But not the best looking option....

Alright. I just don't have that much firsthand experience experience with the S1 tires. I drove my friend's slash with them for a few minutes and that was it. What tires do you think would have a better looking tread pattern for it?

Alright, Sounds good. I was checking out the proline super swampers, they look pretty nice.

Glued some magnets on the body mounts today. JB Weld for the plastic and metal, then shoe goo & drywall tape for the lexan.

Very nice looking project. If you have a link for the part you are using for the trailer coupler, I would greatly appreciate it. I have a trailer that is almost finished, but I still have not found anything great to use for that.
    Wow.... That was fun!
