Curious those who are running 1/8th scale esc/motor combos in the p4de what gearing/battery,wheel combos there running and what there temps usually hitting? Just asking cause I was running my MM2/2650, 3s, 20/50 with rpm revolvers and my motor temp creeped up a bit high the other day running hard (191*) had to drop down to 18/50... I feel like the bigger wheels are some of the reason it got so hot
What surface were you on? I have an 8th scale esc but just a 10th scale motor. I did have a 2650 kv in it at one time and on 4s on pavement geared at 18/54 it hit 140 after a few 500 foot long passes.
This will TOTALLY work, saw a guy on YouTube do it
My sons 2650 combos ran 18/50 and the other 19/54. Both with 2.8 wheels and tires (trenchers and mashers). 19/54 on 3s and it only got up to 130 after a full pack. And he likes to be on throttle. The 18/50
Runs 2s I don't think it ever reached over 110.
Im running on some thick grass and payment... I was running pretty hard and my truck is on the heavy side but i have a new pair of f11 17mm with some small street tires and truck runs significantly cooler
I have the 8th 2200 and running 19/50 the motor gets hot. 19/54 is where it stays nice. Running grass, pavement, dirt.
Due to the place where the motor is located and depending on the body, the motor does not get much airflow. I noticed that a fan on the motor makes a lot of difference.
I am pretty sure I used similar gearing as you on pavement and never saw such high temps.
For grass it appears just a little too wild.
Even with 18/50 it goes forward pretty impressive, doesn't it![]()
Nobody is born with experience
Darn the truck is a beast running 18 or 20 gear Impressive little torque monster ... I'm just tryn to control temps a little better with summer coming... I'll order up a motor fan and leave 18 gear in see how it does thanks for the info

You could put a few holes in the windshield with a body reamer like I do. it helps feed the fans and electronics extra cool air...peace
Famous last words...watch this!!!!
I ordered castle motor fan for my 2650 been using it for about a week. Gotta say the fan seems to have zero effect on lowering temps at all. I saw on eBay a few bigger more expensive heat sink fans for motors anyone have a luck with one of those
I've read that before about the Castle motor fans, and it doesn't surprise me, that unit is a lot of plastic with a small fan (unlike other heatsink+fan units) and its just blowing on a motor not a heatsink. I do have a Castle fan on my 2400kv and it never reads over 130, however I've never taken a temp without it....maybe I should just to see.
I have the castle 2200kv motor and I also bought the fan. Never used it yet. I look at it and wonder if it will even have an effect. I like the holes in the window idea
Or install the heavy duty traxxas motor plate, so far from my runs its 5 to 10 f lower then when I had stock in my slash 4x4 mt with an sc8 wp but planning to put either an mm2 or sw8 still with a 2400.
Live life to the fullest
I just picked up a 2200kv motor this week. i plan on getn into a revo soon and I figured id grab a 2200 now to see how it runs in my pede. switching from my 2650 to the 2200 can I expect lower temps? ill be running same battery and gearing
I'm running the sidewinder 8th in my pede and it rocks! I'm geared 20/50 on 4s, temps are always good nothing over 130 degrees.
Hey kid that's not a toy!!
20/50 on 4s. Yikes.
I'm running 20/54 on 3s and I feel bad for my trenchers. Not really, I love it.
Whats 20/50 like compared to stock gearing?
23/36 on my 2200 1515b hooked to xo1 esc. WOW
Dirk 20/50 is awesome compared to stock gearing. Is that what your running with your system. Stock gearing
18/54 sidewinder 8th on 3s is plenty of "awesome" for me, the temps are never a concern. Basically plug and play, I ran 2 packs back to back three times last weekend hard bashing and never got it over 140 (almost 80 degrees ambient to).
I found couple days ago after inspection I had a bad rear diff which I think was contributing to high temps on my 2650kv motor... Today I installed and brand new xo rear diff and installed my new 2200kv motor 20/50 gearing, Charged up my 3s and fired it up . Gotta say after running my 2650 since last year I think the 2200 is a lot faster
To keep my temps in check, I glued a 12v 40mm pc fan directly to my 2650kv motor with a dab of shoe goo. But I run it right from the 4s battery. It gets a little over 16v full charge, so not enough to hurt it. I also use a 12v fan for my 1/8 scale esc also run straight to input voltage. I run 19/50 gearing with a variety of tires, from 3" drifts to Trenchers on RPM Revolvers. Style of bashing plays a big part. While being hard on it, I will pause for a while or take it easy and give the fans a chance to cool things down!
I just ordered the 2200 sidewinder. I had a 3800kv dynamite fuse system which I loved the speed. Am I going to get the same speed with the 2200 if I run 20/50? And if it don't do backflips its for sale!!
My sidewinder 8th esc fan got all jammed up with debris and destroyed itself running 3s 18/54 and the ESC thermalled on 3s, high 80's ambient temps. I was pretty surprised, didn't have any issues running 2s until I got a new ESC fan though. Seems the sidewinder 8th ESC fan is pretty necessary.
