I know this has been asked before....XO-1 Diffs in a Slash 4x4

Exactly what is needed to put an XO-1 diff in my slash.
If you could provide part numbers that would be great.
I know there is an "I" bar and also side plates to beef up the diff That is where I need the help.
I believe that will be the last upgrade needed before I go motor and esc.
    Thanks
    Fred

    Hey Fred Click here

I did it this way. Super easy to do. Hardest part was lining up the seal when putting back together.

The easiest way is to buy one from a chop shop. It is then a direct drop in with nothing extra to do.

Easy, yes. But you can make 2 of them yourself (link in post #2) for the price you'll pay for 1 from a chop shop.

When I was in Indianapolis last year it cost me just shy of $30.00 to build one front scratch. I got a complete differential for $19.99 from a chop shop. For me it was basically $10.00 cheaper.

Not any more. The chop shops are getting expensive now. They are on to our upgrades, LOL. I just looked and the cheapest chop shop XO-1 diff I could find was $32.00.

It's just like the El Sob special (Traxxas 2400kv motor and ET-3s ESC, for anyone new reading). Lately they have been so high priced... might as well just throw in $10 more and get a sidewinder 8th.

I just bought one last month. It cost me $19.99. I guess I should have brought two or three. I currently have two. One is in my truck and the other is going into my daughter's

Right now on eBay you can get the ENTIRE differential housing (diff, case, pinion, and all of the bearings) for $32. Just the differential on it's own with 2 bearings is $36 (Dollar Hobbyz is even higher).

Last year I got the diffs for around $15 each, now they have gone up over 100%. That's some serious inflation!!! Some of the chop shops are getting a bit high with their prices and it is going to end up costing them business. Just like Matts pointed out, the Sidewinder 8th is a much better value now than the Funny Car system. Heck, the MXL-6s is only $7 cheaper than a brand new Mamba Monster 2. I'd pay the extra $7 and get the real deal.

It's good for Traxxas though because the price of their replacement parts are becoming a much better value. It only cost me $31 to build 2 XO-1 diffs myself.

Could you please provide me links to where you were able to buy the parts so cheap? As I stated earlier it cost me about $30.00 at a couple brick and mortar stores.

I prefer to build mine myself. That way you are sure that they are assembled correct and they don't have any stripped screw holes. Plus if you want to use different fluid you don't have to clean them out.

Yikes , my lhs sells them at a nice traxxas price 4.50S for the cups and for the 5382X 17.99$

I also needed the ring and pinion gears. That is what took mine over the top price wise. That is why I knew that sounded cheap to me lol

Yeah. That makes all of the difference. The above is just assuming everything is OK and that you are just upgrading.

Yup the top gear and ring gear outside is another 21$...not to mention bearings and screws are apart as well, no way to make the whole diff at the price above unless bought off dollarhobbyz as a complete one.

I wanted to build mine to and put my own diff oil.....

I had to build a completely new differential. Now I see that I got off not paying too much. I found this old hobby shop that the newest Traxxas vehicle there was the first generation Slash 2wd. I was able to get parts there for a very reasonable price. When I go back in a couple week I may have to make a return visit just to see what treasures he may be hiding

Be hard pressed to beat the price on these. Not too bad for the whole unit.

I have a gear set and a ring and pinion but the traxxas distributor was out of stock of the carriers, now they are back in stock and I have a feeling I pre-paid for it, my rear diff is getting a bit noisy hehe

So..... These are "probably" the last upgrade I need for my backslash. Are these a drop in replacement or do I need to order some other parts to complete?

Do you have to reuse the 4x4 cups or is the XO1's a direct replacement?

Just built and installed my XO-1 diffs. 30w rear 50W front. Amazing how easy the Slash 4x4 is to work on. This was the last hopup I needed as I'm now fully bulletproof. Guess I'll be hard on tires now as that's the only week point left. Good stuff.

I know this is probably a stupid question. Do you mean 30,000 and 50,000 weight fluid? 30 and 50 weight would be extremely thin for a differential.

I just made some "custom blended" 65K fluid. I put it in front and rear. I took 50% 30K and mixed it with 50% 100k in a bottle. (100+30=130/2=65k).
