which motor do I upgrade to from the vxl stock system? help

Starting to do some research on which motors to upgrade to and with all the options maybe you guys can help me in the right direction. I run 2s and 3s and I geard down for my 3s to help with temps. I would like to get a system where I can gear back up to stock or higher on 2s and then when I go to 3s with the same gearing I can still bash for a good period of time without the worry of over heating if its possible. I think I'm in between a sidewinder 8 or a mm 2. Of course I don't need bells or whistles when it comes to programming and I dont know if there are other companies that make good motors and esc combos. Also the install is another factor where the less mod to install thr Better for me! Thanks hope I made sense

ive been told the duratrax esc is the same as the hobbywing so it should be water proof.

I run the Castle Creations Sidewinder 8th in my Sl4sh.
I run the Castle Creations Mamba Monster 2 in my E-Revo.

My experience says you can't go wrong with either one.

So with the sidewinder 8th do you have to do any mods to make it fit?

It's a direct drop in for the Rally / LCG Sl4sh. I love it.

BTW, my Slash 4x4 (same LCG chassis as the Rally) has a Castle Creations MMX ESC and 2200kV motor:

Nice ride! Thanks for the input everyone, Matts175 thread was awesome, lots of info.... tough decisions for me.... either sw8 or "Elsob special" i have 2, 2s lipos and one 3s..... I feel comfortable on 2s, 3s gets real exciting then I break things.... winter is coming and I want to be better prepared with a machine I can bash in the snow no problem.... I'm really leaning on the sw8 after all the good recommendations. Seems like they are both priced about the same. Also I'm really trying to keep a budget without having to put another $100+ in more after market upgrades just to keep up with the new power system I go with. Would a funny car motor be better in that case? And can I run 2s on a sw8

Yes, the 2400kV is a great motor. If you keep it on 2S power, you wont be breaking as much. Just replace/upgrade what does break.

    Have fun!

I am ambivalent when it comes to squeaky clean RC pics. Clean and beautiful vs where's the love (dirt)?

When the whole tray is that neatly put together I'd be hard pressed to dirty it up.

I dont even clean mine anymore, well I clean and maintain things to a point but the days of the perfectly clean rc are reserved for the PF8 and FLM both of which see only clean pavement making dirt pretty much a nonissue.
I may take the time over the winter months and do a couple complete break downs, basic top to bottom clean and or replace as needed thing.
Taking the time to clean them between bash sessions takes to long and makes it harder (mentally) to go play in the dirt again.

I really enjoy the looks of your build Squeegie! that thing is sweet. thanks for the advice as well, as to everyone else also.
I did end up going with a sidewinder 8th for my slash since winter is around the corner. but I do know that a upgrade motor and esc is in my rallys future!! so the sidewinder 8th is a sweet set up and I haven't even touched a 3s yet. the motor just feels like butter dinking around on 2s but it is slow as ever with a 14T pinion ( my LHS ordered me the wrong pinion so I settled for a 14t while I wait for it to ship.) well cant wait to do some more driving with my new set up.

What esc plate did you use? Did you have to screw in the stock holes or needed to drill new ones?

On the lcg chassis you can use existing holes there. As for the top plate he has on it it's from an erevo if I remember correctly.
