Woo Hoo.... BAJR body and Stampede 4x4 bumper on the way!!!
I "Googled" and "YouTubed" this first, but I just could not find a solid answer. I think I want to Plasti-dip it, depending on the answers in this thread...
My question is... if I plastic dip the outside too (I really dig that flat black "Mad Max" kind of look) what happens to it after it goes skidding down the street on it's roof at 40 mph?
I found videos of guys keying their Plasti-dipped 1:1 car and videos of a guy banging his wheels with a tire iron and nothing happening. But the only videos I found of r/c cars were of guys painting it and running it.
OK. Changed my mind after going to look at the paint. I'm going to do it all on the inside. Red and Black.
you could probably do both. plasti-dip obviously isn't permanent so if you didn't like the look you just peel it off.

i believe to get a matte look you need to spray the outside. but it will get torn off. i plastidiped my daughters razor scooter and where her feet go rubbed off pretty fast. you could just use a matte black paint on the inside. im sure its cheaper than plastidip also.

I'm not a fan of plastidip at all lol. I picked up a 1:1 car a while back that was dipped.... Took me a whole day to get the crap off.
If you scrape the PlastiDip on the outside, it would probably rip and peel.
If you really want to use it, spray it on the inside. After that, mask the outside of the windows and hit it with a matte clear coat (Tamiya Flat Clear #PS55).
MadMax65 actually sandblasted his to give the matte affect:

Well... that was a complete FAIL.
I went to go pull the window masking off, like only 1 minute after I painted it and it pulled the paint up with it, making it curl up. Thankfully... it really did just peel right off. It was actually pretty easy getting it off. I'm giving up on that idea, so I just got back from the LHS with the correct lexan paint and will have another go at it tomorrow.
Glad it was just PlastiDip and just pulled off with damage to the body!![]()

like squirrel said; "but squirrel, what happens if I mess it up? You can't mess it up! it peels right off!" please post updates and pictures. Also good to know what matts is up to

What a cool wife I have. While I was at work, she masked off the windows for me again with blue 3M painters tape. Original included window masks got ruined in the first attempt and I was like "Ohhh no... what now?"
yeah plastidip is awesome for some things. i tried to tint my tail lights with it, but the light doesnt come through it very well. so i just peeled it right off. i used it on my tekno shafts since they got rusted to help make them black again lol. i also used it on my shock caps. they were blue and i sprayed painted them, but the plastidip seems to stick better idk why though. i need to tough them up though since they got scratched up from sliding down the road
When you get road rash scratches on the outside if you painted on the outside you can just respray plastic dip on that spot and it looks just the same like a patch job works out perfectly or near perfect
Update... got one color finished. It came out awesome. Then I had to go to work. I'll definitely post pics when it's done.
I think I discovered a new favorite paint too. I have ALWAYS used Tamiya paint, but the LHS didn't have the color I wanted, so I bought DuraTrax brand. Not only was it cheaper, the can was like 50% bigger. It went down really nice and dried super fast too.
DuraTrax was the old Pactra line.
I used to use only Pactra and Tamiya back in the day.
Now I use Tamiya and SpazStix. I haven't used DuraTrax... yet.
Can't wait to see pics of your BAJR!![]()

That's all I use now duratrax paint. Your right it sprays on better and dries way faster. I like spraying dark colors with it. I also use spazstix it's the same dries fast and sprays on good. I did my wife's truck body with it. Plus I think they don't smell as bad as tamiya. Spaz you don't get as much as dura but it's more then tamiya.
duratrax is not the same product as pactra. They do have the same part numbers and colors as pactra did but they are not the same in quality.
If my wife even cared, it would have been something like, "Haha."
I have only used Tamiya and I will only use Tamiya...

I have a body thats been painted a few times now.
I used the Dot 4 brake fluid and paper towel trick and am quite impressed with the way it works.
I might add the lexan does fog up a bit but disappears when you paint it, for the windows a dremel polishing wheel does the job very well.
PS. I cant stress enough the importance of making sure the paper towel is in contact with the paint to be removed, just rubbing Dot 4 on it wont work, well unless you have a week or so.
Also Dot 3 takes forever as well.
I also take a couple small pieces of paper towel and cut them the size of head light openings to remove paint from scaler bodies and install head lights behind them.

OK. Here it is. It's not 100% complete... but I have to leave now for a party 1/2 way across town. Still have to sticker it up and drywall tape / shoe goo by the body post holes.
Yes... it looks kind of like Squeeqie's and I'll admit, I'm stealing his ideas... but I LOVE his Slash. I have the Stampede 4x4 bumper for it too. Wonder where I got that idea?
I'll put more pictures up when it's 100% done.

same here not working for me either.
Looks nice Matt, I can see how that body will help with the parachuting effect.
I wish I could see colors better, cant wait to see it all done up.
For you fellas that cant see it does this help?

Kscrib's i can see no problems. -looks good to. i like all black too.
Ok this is strange, when Matt first put up his pic I saw it, even transferred in hopes others could.
I turned off the computer and went to get some chores done, upon my return the pic has been either removed or something else has happened.
Now I have a space with a - sign in the middle.
