Yes, but plenty of escs will run more than rated. The old 3s rated mamba max will run 4s all day long with lvc off and auto lipo off. A fella in the Rusty forum put several 3s runs on his xl5 before going brushless.

The old evx was rated 14.4, we all ran 16.8v all the time.

that was my first turn down when saw the brushless system, definitely it is not castle re branded, it's from the velienon family, meaning own traxxas brand.

good question, does it has over voltage protection? IMO not worth trying to find out, i guess it will void the warranty too.

But if it doesn't sense it will it shut itself down? With the right firmware the old mamba max did not.

You had to run in NIMH mode so it would not detect voltage. I have three. Haha. Would almost be willing to try. If temps stay acceptable it'll likely be fine.

Like you said if temps allow it. IMO it won't stay cool considering the size of the beast, if you had to watch temps on 6s on the erevo/emaxx imagine this beast on 8s. Let's say it works, what about the motor rpm's on 8s?

Probably right on staying cool. But, assuming temps were able to be kept good. Gear it properly.

Then use data castle link to limit total fwd % to the right rpms. Then you will get all the rpms the motor can run and more torque.

I believe fellas have been running 8s through the 1717.

True. I also never liked the VXL systems much. heat issues on 3s, not programmable...

Smokes two of them one vxl-3m and one vxl-3s.

Hope this time the esc is better.

Does anyone know how many poles the 1600kv motor has?

It HAS to be 4 pole!

On the overvolting, I'm hoping some xo-1 guys have tried it on the MMExtreme and will chime in.

I guess it could be a 2 pole, but I think that'd be silly. That was half the problem with the original vxl, which they uograded to 4 pole. A truck like this needs the torque of a 4 pole. And 6 pole, well, you don't see those much. Except for some of the Chinese motors. I think they cause the esc to switch too much.

I really hope that Traxxas has equipped this car with heavy duty driveshafts and a sturdy overall drivetrain. I hate to see axels breaking and differentials breaking in stock form as they tend to do on the E-revo. Also, why only 6S on such a large and heavy car?

I think the drive train looks plenty beefy. All the splined stuff should really help.

I'd like to find out if 4s packs will even fit in the battery trays.

Haha. Same here. Except it's with the wife. I'll probably wait and pick up a roller later on when prices have come down some. And I'll have been able to save up for it.

drivetrain and diffs looks pretty beefy. pretty large 4- spider diffs and all metal cvds. traxxas did it right this time.

5000mah probably is only 10 minutes. You'll need higher mah like 8000mah range for a decent runtime I would imagine.

That really kicks the price up a bit. 2 x 3cell 8400mah @ $160 and $100 charger puts this bad boy over $1200 for 20 minutes of run... I guess it would be a fun 20 minutes.

I'm not an electric guy, guessing you could get cheaper packs than the traxxas ones. I was just looking at their 3 cell packs/charger price.

I'm with you on this. The additional $400 just to walk into the electric side of things is definitely a "con" for me. Then again, I think the MP is going to be busy soon with ppl thinning herds gathering $ for an XM.

Definitely. Traxxas packs cost at least 25% more than competitor's (better) packs.

Does the lack of the Traxxas ID connector (on third party packs) bother you at all?

Well the new ID connectors are not even available as spare part, even with Traxxas.
The balance port is integrated with the connector and that seems to be a good point compared to a hanging port.

I would like to see these ID connectors available as spares.

I think we can probably gear up some. But then, every bit of this is 100% speculation. Lol

As always. Gear up, and check temps. Then go from there. I'd be tickled pink with 45 mph.
