Here's mine. I'm currently waiting on a solution to the firmware update via TQi to unbrick my transmitter.
I also have Integy 12mm extended hubs on the way.

Some updated pics. I’m building this Xmaxx into an RC Camera Car capable of holding a Sony FS5. I’ve modded the entire suspension, mostly with Integy parts. Springs are the stiffest that traxxas makes, shock oil is Team Associated 80wt to handle the extra weight of the truck with the upgrades. The hubs are Integy’s +12mm for the 6s, with the interior machined our and the pin hold drilled for the 8s shafts. Screws have been switched to stainless, interior bracing is Atomik Rc’s kit, steering bellhousing and components will also be upgraded shortly. VG Racing’s steel cage has been modded so that the top is completely flat to serve as a mounting platform for the gimbal vibration isolator mount.
So far it’s been a lot of fun to build. The funny part is all of this beefing up, and when at work, it’ll probably only run on 2s batteries.

First bit of bashing after buying the car a few weeks ago

Hey all!
Been out of RC for awhile (other than a 1/16 eRevo I occasionally mess around with) and apparently I decided to really get back into it! lol I now have an X-Maxx 8S, and immediately started getting other stuff for it. So far: Proline Ford Raptor Body (custom paint, but more on that below), plus all the mounting hardware for that, Pro-Line bead-lock wheels, Pro-Line Badlands Tires, Pro-Line dual rate springs, 37.5 wt oil for the front shocks & 40 wt for the rear, Traxxas 2085X metal gear steering servo, T-Bone Racing front, center & rear skids, T-Bone XV4 front bumper, T-Bone V4 Wheelie bar, Hot Motors dirt cover (not installed yet), plus a hardened metal spur gear, although I don't remember the brand or number of teeth. lol Powerwise, I'm pretty happy with the stock 8S for now, so I'll hold off for awhile before changing out the motor and ESC. (hopefully!)
Even though I'd say this is the most complex (or maybe 2nd most complex) paint job I've ever attempted, I'd say it easily is the best I've ever had any paint job turn out.
A few firsts for me with this paint job:
- First time using a vinyl cutter to make paint masks. (I found a Cricut vinyl cutter/plotter for cheap at a yard sale down the street from me.)
- First time painting logos too.
- First time using the outer overspray film as a paint mask and...
- First time painting flat black on the outside.
This paint job easily took 30-40 hours, (maybe more) although part of that time was spent on trial and error with the vinyl cutter. Definitely lots of time masking! I masked off everything but the black for the first go (including to paint the widow frames- another first for me), then once the black was done I masked all the other stuff, including the multi-color logos. Crazy number of different colors- Black, metallic blue, gun-metal gray to back the metallic blue, racing orange, white, window tint, and finally flat black.
Here's the paint job process:
Masked off everything but the black, including so I could paint window trim. (Forgot the trim on the sunroof. Dang!)
After the black, BSU logos added. (short sentence, hours of frustrating trial and error! lol)
2 tone paint lines with white pin striping laid down, and metallic blue painted and backed.
Orange pained. Then came the fun part of pulling off the masking & vinyl for the white, which required lots and lots of scraping off blue and orange paint that worked its way in due to some "blow-outs" with the fine lines.
Cool detail of the gloss black "structure" on top of the flat black bed. I was amazed at how well the over-spray film on the outside worked as a paint mask. The flat black doesn't seem very durable, but still cool looking, especially right when it is done.
Saw this cool trick on YouTube for dying the bead-locks for the wheels using Rit Dye. Turned out Okay, but not quite the right shade of orange. It is very hard to control the color while dying the rings.
Found another cool trick on YouTube of using a Sharpie Paint Pen to paint the raised lettering on the tires. Looks cool! (in my opinion, which is, of course, a bit biased)
And... Some shots of it finished!
I think the Wheelie Bar from T-Bone Racing is pretty awesome! Longer, lower, and wider than the stock, so it is more stable when riding a wheelie. (down side- current generation wheelie bar doesn't have bearings on the wheels, so they tend to bind up, overheat and tear off. Been told by T-Bone they have sourced some bearings with wheels, so hopefully next gen will get fixed)
Last one! Cool shot on a rock, really showing the armor from T-Bone, and the bumper. (I don't like the look of the two front bumpers, so I might try removing the stock.)
Sorry for the long post! If you have questions about how some of this stuff is done, please feel free to ask!
This is MAXXimus
The truck has some cosmetic upgrades:
Basher front bumper, upgraded nerf bars, upgraded skid plates, body, etc, but the bulk of the rig is stock. I have badlands but have not bolted them on yet.
Ongoing project.
- Pro-Line Trencher Tyres
- Pro-Line Impulse Black Rims
- Pro-Line Chevrolet Silverado Body
(Painted black and silver)
- Dusty Motors Chassis Cover
- Dusty Motors Shock Socks
I've got more cosmetic upgrades I want to do. I also have a belt drive system to install.
