Can you post a log file? What size pinion/spur are you using?

Don't know if you wanted to see other parameters. Let me know. 49t pinion 54t spur. most of the run is on 8s. The last bit is 6s as you can see. Thanks for the help.

Yes I am using the stock traxxas radio with the sensors plugged it. Can you explain what throttle input is? And it's measured in milliseconds? I know the max power out was 100% at times. Does that mean full throttle? If it does I'm still confused as to what throttle input is?

Throttle input is directly related to your trigger finger. Full forward throttle = 2.0ms, full reverse = 1.0ms, neutral = 1.5ms.
Here is a good explanation of what those numbers actually represent: https://www.servocity.com/html/how_do_servos_work_.html

According to your log, the ESC never sees full throttle. Have you calibrated your ESC?

and according to the log the max throttle input was 1.973ms. So I guess thats normal. Here's the answer to my question:
Throttle In – The millisecond pulse you were sending from your transmitter/receiver to the ESC at any given point on the data log graph. On airplanes and helicopters 1.0ms is zero throttle and 2.0ms is full throttle. On cars and boats, 1.5ms is neutral, 2.0ms is full throttle, and 1.0ms is full brake/reverse.

I swapped esc's with the same result. Maybe I'm just letting it get to my head.

Scratching my head on this one. Here is a sample of my test log. See how it tops out at full throttle (which is 1.0ms for me) quite a bit? [1.0ms = full throttle, 2.0ms = full brake/reverse for me. Don't ask why it's reversed, I was messing around with settings]

    Are you feathering the throttle?

According to your XLX, you only hit full throttle a few times for a split second.

More or less I was going up and down the street in front of my house. I didn't hit actual full throttle too many times cuz the truck is so fast. Lol. Tires were starting to look like pizza cutters.

I haven't driven with the XLX yet, only the XL2. I'll post and compare this week hopefully.

Here is what the throttle signal looks like on a oscilloscope. The "longest" signal is 100% throttle and 2000us/2ms. Shortest is 1000us/1ms and reverse. Only thing that gives a impact on endpoint on these is when temperature/voltage isn't plugged in then I only got like 1550-1600us on full throttle if I recall correctly.

I ordered a bunch of 6.5mm castle connectors as well, just to rule that out as my stuttering issue.

Here is the latest update. Received a bunch of goodies yesterday.

    Goodies
    - AVID bearings (Knuckles & Diff outputs)
    - TRA5722 Battery Straps
    - Castle Programming Card (XLX came with a coupon to get this for $10)
    - Diff fluid (50k)
    - Diff related spare parts
    - Bag-O-Stainless Screws (local high quality supplier).

    Bearings
I'm glad I replaced these, I found two of the 20x27x4 bearing (inner knuckle) seized up and one of the Diff outputs on it's way.

    Straps
The SPC 4S 6500mAh 65C batteries fit so much better now! Thanks to ReglarGuy for this tip.

Unfortunately it's only 8 degF out right now, so no runs unless I want the plastic to shatter on me!

Everything looks very good Vipe, and I'm glad you liked/used my battery strap idea. I guess with the bigger gear set you can't put your gear cover back on. I wonder if that will happen to me using a 56/26 gear set.

Correct, no cover. I'm going to get a shroud as soon as one is available.

I've gone at least 30mins without hitting The low voltage limit. It's been too cold to run for too long.

I originally purchased some knockoff ec5 connectors and realized they were going to be impossible to work with using 8mm wire on the esc connectors. Ordered a bunch of the castle connectors, and they were much easier to work with other than snapping the connectors into the plugs! I also threw a 50t spur in this morning. I'm hitting a little over 50mph using a 49t pinion on 6s. I also figured out if I took all the foam out of the battery trays, my 4s batteries fit in perfectly using the factory holders.

Wow 30 minutes! Is that like 30mins of cruising around easy or 30 mins of blasting on it? Just curious cuz I Bairley get 10 out of my 5000mah packs but that's on the gas a lot

    ViperX-Maxx (8S) build

Depends on your definition , but I'd say I'm a pretty casual basher. With this setup I'm under 50% throttle for a majority of the time.

A quick log snippet that I took after switching to the XLX and Castle 6.5mm bullet connectors. (Finally had a bit of warm weather).

Ripple voltage under 1V and max current of 186A. Battery was nearly drained unfortuantely so I wasn't out there very long.

It looks like your cells are dipping to 3v under load. I wouldn't keep those types of loads on those batteries- that or go higher mah.

I noticed that as well, I'm going to run them freshly charged this afternoon and compare. These are SPC 6500mah 65C so 200A should be no sweat.

The AVID bearings aren't lasting any longer then what Traxxas uses. Already had to replace one Innir wheel bearing just after I put the AVID's in. I am pretty sure they are the same bearing.

I started greasing all my bearings before putting them into commission. Traxxas or Avid, and they have begun to last much longer. And fail in less spectacular fashion when they are worn out.

Speaking of failures, my slipper started to loosen up apparently.

How does the Kershaw esc mount mount. I see in the front the 2 screws but what supports it in the back?

I just ordered my goodies yesterday, though i have been debating which ESC to get. Dan suggests the Leopard ESC....kinda on the fence with the XL2X because my XL2 didn't last too long on my XO-1 with a 5882 setup. Then again the pinion was nearly the size of the spur.
Have you decided what you will use the Stock X-MAxx electronics for yet?

The XLX comes with additional caps which really helps with ripple voltage which typically kills ESCs. I'm a Castle guy, especially love the data logging.

Also the XLX came with a coupon code to get a free Castle Link
