Took my X-Maxx to the skate park!!!! *LONG Video* lots of jumps!!!

Everything went well except the slipper clutch about 10 minutes in to my session starting chattering or something.

    I couldn't figure out why?
I haven't pulled the cover off to see why its doing that. It's very obvious in the video about a few minutes in.

TONS OF FUN! unbelievably controllable. It's awesome!

I played with it for 30 minutes straight on the 8400's 6S (Traxxas batteries) and stopped because of that slipper clutch noise.

    Enjoy!!!!

Looks like a blast!!! Would love to get my hands on one! That chattering just makes me cringe though!

Sounded like there is too much gear lash somewhere and I really didn't hear until after you went through the deep water. I would first check how loose the pinion gear mesh is and go from there.

How do you plan to dry out the tire foams?

Love the raw video, jumps look fun and the suspension held up to it all it seems!

Loved the hang time you got.

I am going to steer away from skateparks, I know that's where I'd be breaking stuff. Haha.

Thanks for posting, hope you sort the gearing and chattering issue... If new i'd call Traxxas to report it and look for advise to best fix it. They may or may not have seen this issue, if it is an issue, on new trucks?

I read in the EREVO manual to cut two small slits in the tread part of each tire, opposite ares, if running in water. Then at the end of a run, run it at higher speed it "flick" the water out. ..... Would the same work here? I have no idea how similar the tires and inserts are EREVO vs X-MAXX. Just thought I'd through this out there.

See post 7. Unless you unmount the tires, you need to punch, cut , or burn holes in the tires and then spin them up to expel the water.
Leaving a significant amount of water in those huge tires will wreck a lot of things in a short period of time, including the tire foams.

My way is this: I avoid water.

As you guys can all tell in the video, I took it very easy at first and then started slowly gaining experience and started to get a little see more adventurous with the jumps.

    I appreciate all the compliments!
I knew people have been waiting forever for a half decent Xmaxx action video and I tried my best to deliver!

Still really surprised that a loose slipper clutch can cause that weird chattering. Interesting. Happy it's fixed!

The car has only received some minor scuffs from flipping once on the concrete. Other than that it's new still!

Awesome work on the jumps. Glad you fixed the slipper issue. Try getting some of that water out of the wheels though... X Maxx on!

    Sweet!

I guess it makes sense, it's just like a real clutch. It chatters when it's loose and slipping. Neat lol.

By the way guys the skate park video is less than 3 miles from Traxxas main headquarters and this is where Traxxas made the first Xmaxx video in the rain.

    Thanks a ton guys!
    Any questions let me know!!!

I don't think much of any water is in the wheels???

I always seal the holes in the wheels off, but that's just me. I hate preventable maintenance. If you run in the rain or wet conditions with open holes, there is water in the tires. The faster the wheels were spinning, the more water went into those foams just by the nature of centrifugal force. That's also the force that will allow it to come back out if you put holes in the tires.

Yes! It absorbs those jumps like crazy! I seriously don't think it has bottomed out even once. That thud is just the heft of the truck and the REALLY thick dampening the suspension has.

I went to a local hobby shop today and a customer broke his Xmaxx! His left rear shock broke (shaft came out of the shock body) and its going to stay broken for 2 weeks at least supposedly as there are no parts available for it yet.

I don't know exactly what broke that guys car but I can promise you he had to of hit something HARD.

Thanks for the advice I may drill 2 holes on each side of each tire on opposite ends.

I searched X-MAXX on youtube and found a couple other snippets from the skatepark session, had to post 'em, they're cool:

I don't honestly know I just turned it a few turns and stopped. I didn't bottom the spring out.

It's crazy hard to get that supplied Traxxas slipper clutch tool in there.

E-Revo and Summit slipper needs some break in. Probably the X-Maxx slipper too. What does the manual say?

If not in the manual, sounds like a call to Traxxas Support would be helpful, they are good.

Yep, 7:15. Jumped right into a skatepark pond haha. Did you notice much water in the tires, any tires unbalanced now as a result of water being inside?

    Zero unbalance. Very surprisingly!

I ended up drilling holes in the tires.

I read in the Start Up Guide that slipper adjustment was 1/8 turn out from full in.

Yep, and the package has a wrench included for slipper adjustments.
