Have you tried the gpm ones? They arenít bad like most of their aluminum stuff, they are hardened steel.

I love the diffs. I really try hard to match all my components colors. So if it were me Iíd have gone with HR diff housing covers. Iíve never had issues from my diffs. If I do Iíll do the HR diffs like you and the black HR housing covers to compliment my upper arms. All in all itís awesome. I bet you keep your gears better longer.

Yeah as you saw above gpm for once warrantied the gears I broke in like two runs. They are sending two new sets for front and rear I think. Their communication isnít the best, the gears will probably be here in a couple months at this rate with the virus

Today installed the traxxas 46T spur gear 6447R with the stock 18T metal pinion, this is the first gearing change i've made to my truck. I enjoyed it! Previously it felt quick but also felt like it ran out of steam to quickly...

Now, with this 46/18 gearing it feels to my gut like it's the way it should have been out of the box, it feels fast, not crazy fast but fast and with more oopf to get it rotated when doing backflips.

yeah... backflips, the last one of the day while mid-air. the Spur Gear exploded and took out a few teeth on the pinion as well... sigh, but it was fun. So... new hardened gears it is!

    the carnage:

The exploding 46t spur gear on the stock 18t pinion gear

When using this gear ratio on the Xmaxx- the gear mesh
should be set without the pins installed under the motor
A 19 tooth pinion is better installed with pins in the 18t pins holes

Hmm, I will very closely inspect the mesh when installing the new gears.

I did check the mesh after finishing the install and was very happy with it, there was only a tiny amount of free lash in the mesh, I even thought to myself that it was as good as i would have expected from manually setting the mesh.

I did and do still consider that the problem was not the mesh but actually the spur gear speed, it exploded while full throttle with wheels off the ground (in midst of backflipping)which allowed for much higher than normal rotational speeds. That combined with the traxxas spur gear being of questionable quality IMO... it appearing to be cast unhardened metal.

Spur gears may not be of the best quality but
In 4 years have only had 3-4 stock 46t spur gears fail
    = few plum wore out

    Cheap enough fix

Had a Xmaxx drift run today running 5b baja hostile slicks

Just get out there and play

Installed the first GPM parts on it - all the diff output yokes were wore out
    24t pinion was showing wear
    Small track- installed an 18t

Lots of extra time right now, ordered the 8s setup for my 6S XMAXX. Now does wheelies on command with 6S Crazy what a difference the Cush drive and Center Diff make. Traxxas did the ESC swap for $110.00 and I ordered the X axles, hubs and cups. Didnít really notice a perceptible difference by feel or weight but I guess theyíre HD. Ordered the X pins for the axles as they donít come with the new axles or hubs but no issues with he original.

Not sure what Ill do with 8S power as its plenty of fun on 6S now. My grandsons will enjoy the wheelies.
