I put 100k in the front diff and 60k in the rear. I did a test run and it tracked really straight. No wondering back and forth at high speed just squat and go.

Was out running the v1 in the yard. I am running the Cush drive with the hot racing center gear, so no give in the driveline. running 8s this thing is a monster and has so much torque look at what happened Haha.

This axle is the version 2 axles with the beefier pins. I would have guessed the pins or drive cup would have failed first but I was wrong haha twisted this shaft like 100* lol

So, it wasn't "today", but yesterday was Mother's Day, and we decided to hike one of the local trails. I took the X-Maxx, my wife took her Slash 4x4, and the kids took their Horizon ECX Amps. I brought a backpack with spare batteries for everyone, mainly because I really didn't know how long they would actually last with the low-speed mild hills. We didn't do much bashing, or any real speed runs for that matter. It was really just a leisurely trail hike, with the occasional detour to climb the trucks over some rocks or other fun looking obstacles.

I run Venom 10500 mAh 3S batteries, my wife runs Traxxas 5800 mAh 2S batteries, and the boys have some Ni-MH batteries. I had figured that we'd just go until someone ran out of batteries, then we'd change them out, and head back. We ended up almost completing a 2 mile loop before the Ni-MH batteries needed to be replaced, and I never had to change out the Lipos. We had the best time, the weather was perfect, and although I'll say that while it was fun for me to just drive the X-Maxx all over every obstacle, I was a bit jealous of my wife because she was actually able to do some technical driving with her Slash. Spots that she had to choose her path, I just plowed over, ha! We agreed that next time we trail with with the RCs, she & I will trade halfway through.

It was so much fun to be outside with the family, driving these things around, all while getting a bit of exercise. I've been thinking about picking up a crawler, like the upcoming TRX-4, and this outing sealed the deal. Definitely different type of fun than jumping and speed runs, but lots of fun nevertheless.

Oh, man. We almost had to relocate to Phoenix two years ago, and reading this makes me SO happy that we didn't, ha! I don't mind extreme heat for a short time, but not for 6 months out of the year.

today i (almost) finished my JEEP body for the x maxx. as i am already for many years in large scale rc's i had a FG jeep body lying around. so about a year ago when i bought the x maxx i figured it would fit pretty nicely on the x maxx. it took me some time to adapt the x maxx cage onto the FG jeep body but it wasn't that big of deal to do it. as there is also a vw beetle and a hummer body for the short wheelbase FG truck (465mm WB) i guess these bodies would also fit quite easily on the x maxx. actually i have a non painted hummer body that i will eventually try to fit on the x maxx. there are some details that i might modifiy (side guards, driving mirrors etc). so far it looks pretty solid.

    bye

Today I ran my X-maxx for awhile, jumped it into a rock bad resulting in a broken lower control arm, fixed it in about 7 minutes, then took it back out to finish out the run.

    Nice job there.
What about the rear catch / retaining system?
Could you cut out the rear window to permit access?

Fitted the UE / HR / Traxxas centre diff - filled with 60 weight.
MUCH, MUCH lower viscosity than the standard 8S 2.000.000 weight, but thicker than recommended by UE.

Charged up the batteries and mounted on a box and gently test ran - seems OK, initially.

I'll test it some more before opening up.
My intention is getting good drive to the rear, without lifting the front up on small throttle openings.

    Mine is 8S / XL2 / Toro X524 910KV / 46-31 (Spur-Pinion).

I broke some stuff. It turned out to be 3 wheel drive. The dog bone kinda shaved off the wheel hex thingy as you see in the pic.

Took mine out again to break it.... Lol. Finally broke a plastic shock top mount and after I bandaid fixed that with wire I blew out another rear inner hub bearing. Turns out the rear knuckle was cracked.

Since I added the MTXLs I noticed that both knuckles had a bit of play in them at the hubs and that caused premature bearing detonation. I already had some Hot Racing rear knuckles on order to match the fronts. I also ordered an aluminum shock upgrade kit to rid myself of the remaining plastic and got a replacement hub since the threads were crossed at the ends.

Anyway..... at some point I'll get this thing nearly bulletproof.

davesmotors was a shop in the US that had FG parts. I am not sure if that is still the case for all the stuff.
you may also check out rc-car-online.de to get an overview of the FG bodies available. There are also newer 535mm WB bodies available from FG. my jeep and hummer bodies are 465mm WB versions. i guess those fit better to the 480mm WB x maxx.

What about the rear catch / retaining system?
Could you cut out the rear window to permit access?
absolutely correct. I cut a hole in the rear to get access to the clip system.

below a pic of a hummer body just held on the x maxx. seems to fit pretty good in my view. i would need some other (probably longer) pins mounted to the x maxx cage system to fix the hummer body. there are a lot of different body mounts available from FG in different lenghts.

there is also a VW beetle body from FG that might fit. below a pic on my FG MT. its the old version of the beetle. the newer one has the wing directly attached to the body.

    bye

My X-Maxx has a UE centre diff.
All went together fine, using a HR cup as well.

I filled with 60 weight, the intention was to allow to spin as / when, and grip if necessary.

I decided to test out the centre diff!!
Perched on a box I pulled light throttle, then holding the front bumper firmly, I planted the rears on the garage concrete floor - NOT A PROBLEM!!
Fronts continued turning at the same speed, rears static.

When I increased the throttle, the truck reached a point when it wanted to take off.
Easing off, back to static rears, mobile fronts.

    PERFECT!!
    Al.
