Heck ya I can't wait to get this sucker painted! I'm just trying to deiced if I"m going to do a 2 tone or 3 tone paint job on it.
They came in with all the parts for LHS I work at. We got in at least 2 of every part, minus the entire shocks and the pinion gears. How did you get the brace & mounting parts?![]()

The whole mounting system. The clear shell doesn't come with none of those plastics.

The main front and rear latches are TRA7715, and the inner body roll cage/rood supports are TRA7713. They come with all the hardware you'll need too.![]()

You should do a metallic blue. Kind if like the slash bodies you did. That would look awesome.
Seeings how I'm new to this extreme of rc, all my rigs are painted what they came with except for a clear Summit body I have.
I imagine I need to see more collections to decide whether I want to paint them all the same or mix it up.
So is painting one these shells similar to painting a 1:1 rig? All about the prep?
May I ask, do you paint the windows 1st? Then cover the windows for body color? What's the trick to keeping the black paint on when you remove the mask?
tia
Forgot about that. I tell you what. You Tube's turning into the know it all, do it all place.
You paint the inside, so its very different then a normal paint job.
A few tips
Take your time.
Use a light scouring pad on all surfaces that will either be clear or chrome
Wash the shell with a mild detergent to remove the mold relese residue
Draw your design on the out side overspay film
Use several layers of liquid mask rotate 90° each layer
With an exacto knife cut out line off all designs
Remove the plastic mask one color at a time, use light coats and do Darkest colors first
The 9bly time you sont do darkest firsts is if its a paint that has a solvent in it or a paint that needs to be backed with another color
Limit your first shell to 2 or 3 colors to get the hang of things
TAKE YOUR TIME
This is truly my favorite part of the hobby. Be sure to share your results
Here are the 4 lids of done from first to most recent
I got my Xmaxx shell coming in soon cant wait
Yep!So these three parts are all the mounts, hardware and clear shell:
TRA7711, TRA7713 and TRA7715 and we should be good to go???That's all I need for mine. Even if you get the Pro graphix body the part number is TRA7711X.

Yeah, I just said that in a PM.
WOW, Mr. Fuglio! Those are some impressive lids. There's no way I could lay down something like that.
-How hard is it to change colors after you've already laid down color?
-What about during the process? Is it very easy to correct mistakes?
-If I get a hair in it during the drying process I don't imagine I can lightly sand them out like a 1:1 rig correct? We have a Golden Retriever.
-Can a person use any kind of paint thinner? Or will the pt dissolve like a foam cup?
Besides getting my X ready, my next project is painting a shell. I'm a scare-dy car so the 1st shell will be shot with a solid color.
Thanks all, You Tube's great but I imagine I'd have to watch several videos to get my questions answered.
I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. As of now, everybody's X-maxx looks exactly the same. It will be nice to see some different variety.
You can correct tiny mistakes by lightly scraping paint off.... Its one and done some people have saide you can soak them in paint thinner, but its not worth it
Its easier than you think take your time , trace on designs you like. Its my favorite part it ushally takes a week for me to do one. But the actual painting only takes a few hours. The time consuming part is tracing your design on the ouside over spray film and then retracing it on the inside with an exacto knife, use liquid mask not masking tape. Then after all the designs are cut remove one color section at a time makeing sure to paint light coats, otherwise youll be unable to see the trace/cut marks
How much for the body and support/roll cage?
Try lexan picture glueing,to inside body if you not good with air brushing.ck tube videos for idea. Fun an cool.
Well, I spent 5 hours taping my body off last night. Yes, I know you can use Liquid mask, but the tape gives cleaner lines. I"m going to do a three tone/two stage paint job on it using gunmetal, silver, and of course lime green. I'm really excited to share the finished truck with you guys; hopefully it will be done tonight.![]()

So how did it turn out?
I'm with G-Ruslter. It's been way too cold to paint it nicely. During the middle od the day it's 30-40 degrees, but I'm either at work, or at collage 90% of the time, so I haven't gotten a good shot at painting it. At night, when I do have free time. it's 20 degrees outside, which is way too cold. I have the day off work tomorrow, so hopefully I can paint it.![]()

The last body I painted up was for my daughters Rustler and that was just before Christmas, which she absolutely loves driving. I do wish it was a about 20 degrees warmer to go out and give the cars a good bashing.
Pics are over on the rustler page

I finished painting my X-Maxx body, finally after more than a week of waiting for it to warm up above 20 degrees.I'm at work right now, but hopefully I can upload some pictures tonight.
