As far as the 2028 goes I still believe the kv is to low for our application.
Viper did it with gearing of 35/46, and with 6s he is getting a strong torquey 38 mph.

are you running a fan on your motor? I'm going to give 18/50 a shot sometime this week.

Here's the mount i used. bottom is from the Hot Racing MM mount kit and the top is the traxxas mount with the legs cut off. The standoffs are flattened on the back side.

I just ordered my mmx esc, could you post some links to what you used to mount it with? Looks very clean. And could you tell me if I have to order any bullet connectors for this new esc?

    My data log info.

    Smc 9000mah 3s
MMX esc, torque control set to 0 (not limited at all)
    Stock motor
    19/50 gearing

In the snow, 26 degrees outside, wet tar roads

Took it out to do some data logging.

Max amp draw : 145.6 amps
    Max watts: 3,160
    Max esc temp: 184.2
    Max motor rpm: 71,890

Esc fan is not turning on, have to look into it.

    Hope that helps

what's a reasonable temp range for the mamba X? I'm hitting 156F running 18/54. according to the castle website, the fan only runs above 150f.

The bottom plate is this: http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/281871520424 and the top is the Traxxas mount with some standoffs. I think the Traxxas mount is all you need. Maybe someone can confirm that here.

Ahhh ok I don't remember having to change that but I guess I did .
Wonder how much the fan will help cool the esc. I'm guessing 30 degrees at least

Thanks for sharing. I haven't had issues with my ESC at all, but I bought the MMX to replace it before I change the gearing on the truck and produce more heat.

I went to buy a mmx today and the hobby shop didn't recommend it at all. But if I wanted to anyway. That I should use a capacitor block.

    Dunno what to do

They were likely not recommending based off the manufacturer's recommendations. Amp-wise, it's fine. The Xmaxx is big, but not really carrying the weight to justify a 1/5th esc IMO.

Castle doesn't recommend the MMX for vehicles over 15Lbs and the X-Maxx weighs more than that, that's why the hobby shop doesn't recommend it.

Castle doesn't like to give Amp ratings for their ESC's so they give stupid (IMO) weight recommendations that really don't mean anything. In reality the ESC doesn't care how much the vehicle weighs, it's all about the load placed on it. The higher you gear a vehicle the more Amps the motor will draw. You could easily gear a 1/8 buggy or truggy that weighs under 15Lbs to draw more amperage than the X-Maxx does with the stock motor and gearing.

Many people have switched to the MMX in their X-Maxx and it works fine. Just use stock gearing to start and keep an eye on temps and go from there.

Ok. Should I use the capacitor block or just run it.

They have it for $149 which isn't too bad

I agree with this guy, A cap pack will only help the esc live longer, I believe these XO1 guys, he's not the first one to say they use a cap pack on the MM esc.

I'm curious now. I ordered a castle cap pack. I had no issues at all but was seeing up to 3.5 volts ripple so let's see if this lowers that a little. I'll post up once I try it out!

That looks awesome! I'm going to be doing the same but I'm also adding the castle cap pack. Do you have more pics of your setup?

I was just reading on the castle site it says I need the castle quick connect duo to view the data logging. Is this true? I know I need the castle link.

you dont need the duo, it just lets you connect to the link without having to open the receiver box and unplug anything.

I though about that too, except if:

If your ESC has a 3-wire AUX connection (White/Red/Brown) you MUST disconnect it prior to connecting your ESC to
the Castle Link USB adapter. Failure to disconnect a 3-wire AUX connection from the receiver may result in damage to the Castle Link USB adapter.

just a quick question, on the mmx, can you disable dataloging if we don't have a windows computer? I've looked online but nothing turned up.

Unless you have a Jamba x laying around in my opinion it not feesable to but one for $140 she. You can buy a he max6 for about the same. It capable of 8s where the mamba only goes up to 6s. Cool to know it will work in the x maxx ok though.

I do already have one, and I don't care about running 8s. I want to run 6s, with no fires. Lol

The castle cap pack is literally the most meager cap bank for sale. Get a Kill mode or Saga pack.

They significantly reduce ripple voltage(voltage sag). Ripple voltage kills esc's. So better performance and longer life.

10% ripple is borderline. It's not as if the cap packs are expensive. I'd do it on any ride that's an amp hog.
