    P4de Speed Runner Conversion

After getting my 3rd P4de I decided to convert my oldest one to a strict speed runner so that I may join the ranks of the elite crew of Triple Digit Club members. I will be using two different motors and do a comparison with them. This thread will document my progress.

    So the grinding begins:

The motor install mock up here shows the size comparison between the two.
Comparing the Castle 1410 3800kv motor to my Kershaw 2700.

Dang it, where have you been lol. I was struggling on what to do so asked Gpede. He said something that got me thinking vertical, like you are too, so here's what I came up with.
After grinding the esc mount off I had the room on chassis for those legs on esc I made out of battery hold down.

Briber, RCAmber is new to our Mods lol, , RCamber when we gonna see more. Nice Briber. Glad to see the parts are going in and hope you get the triple digits mans. is that 2700Kv basically the same size as a castle 2650Kv?
I'm Excited to see the chassis fully assembled briber.
Briber tomorrows weather is suppose to be sunny and decent for temps here. I'm hoping that your advise and generals advise will prevail and my p4de will scream with the 4s Mamba X 2650Kv. I'm dying, twitching to run her to let you two know how it went.

I don't think a high center of gravity and a short chassis are going to help in your quest for triple digits.....

that setup would work a lot better in a slash that is longer... even a LCG slash, where it is lower center of gravity

That's what I was thinking Jimbo. Only 20 bucks for a slash chassis Briber and if you go LCG it's not that much more to get what you need for the conversion. You'll also need a new driveshaft, tunnel cover and battery hold down.

Slash chassis is much better handling, but then you need a body. Emaxx fits but the wind grabs it at around 65mph. Ask me how I know...

Very good points friends, I appreciate those suggestions and probably will eventually get there. For now I'm sticking to Pede chassis, if G-Pede can do it... So can I. I'm not stopping at 100 though I want work my way up through the ranks to what I believe maximum top speed is... Then go to bigger chassis, longer a-arms, etc.

Don't stop giving suggestions though I'm making note of all thoughts and expertise.

Well buttoned up here, put front and rear bulkheads on and out to test before rain next few days...

I know the pede can do at least 122-125mph. Just need to make sure it's lowered. Arms leveled or slightly below leveled. That's how I had my mini black slash lol. But never actually seen how fast I could go since that particular body wouldn't allow me to run 6s.

    From blow over?
Or space limitations? Gpede runs 2-3' in series under his body...
Haven't gotten a good test on it yet. Tried, but from the rain and streets damp I couldn't get a full pull. Going from 1/2 > 3/4 would send in to a slow 360° spin while sliding to a stop. It was like driving on ice anytime I gave throttle it would result in a slide. Rain through tomorrow so it will have to wait.

As I went to bring it in noticed it acting funny, pretty sure I stripped a hex.

I got my baby p4de running like a champ thanks to your input on the thorrtle and to just not bind the TX and not the ESC. Thank you for your help and getting my p4de to shread speed (LOL) thank you general to! Briber wish you luck and am loving how your setup it coming along.

hey Briber what are you running for that new setup for a spur and pinion?
I'm hoping its a mod .8 and not a mod 1 you stepped up to...
acting fun man, meaning what hex you think got stripped? sorry about so many post. just thoughts keep coming....

Stripped out wheel plastic, so I made the rock crawlers out of them, see my p4de thread.

Right now 15/50, I need to get all new pinions for 5mm motor shaft now. I think for now staying with 50 spur and gonna see what's the biggest pinion I can run even if I have to do some mods. Then I'll go down in spurs from there.

Once I'm done there with pin & spur combo I'll start going up with batts. Right now 3s.

This will definitely b a wip. I can't jump straight in to max gearing with max batt I need to work my way up...

Im ordering SPI wheels for it, just gotta figure out what tire. Needs to be good for bashing too. Not going to buy $100 worth of wheels just to make for speed only...

on the slipper clutch how far do you have the nut turned back from having the spring fully compressed with the 50t spur? Are you going to get aluminum hubs? I hear you there on buying something universal for speed and bashing. Id like to know what you find man. That way I can convince my wife to get a new set from my p4de (yes yes )

For future reference. After you post something you have an hr to edit it. sometimes mods edits your post and make one whole one.

This is very true. Chain posting is frowned upon throughout the world of forums.

On the slipper, I fully compress spring then back off 1/3 of a turn.

Yes alum hubs is an upgrade I will get. For now, in part from generous friends, and saving old parts, I have more than enough plastics to last a few crashes lol, so not in a big hurry...

I will let u know, I'll probably get the good 17mm alum wheels with a good general tire and buy some wheel/tire combo strictly for speed runs.

Hey y'all I will remember to not chain post I didn't know. thank y'all and thank Er33 I didn't think they would combined everything into one, now I know. Thanks Briber for the input man. Have you tried tightening down the slipper to an 8th turn out or maybe a 1/4 turn out? if so what are your thoughts on the performance?

So switching gears here, instead of converting my original p4de to speed runner I have a brushed p4de I'm converting in to my speed runner with this Castle 2200kv motor on 6s. So my original p4de will stay on 2700kv motor on 3s.

I will document my progress on the 2200kv build from this post on.

So here's my speed runner roller so far. Proline extended swing arms, 17mm hex/10mm offset adapters, ofna wheels with street fighters tires, 2200kv with fan and aluminum shock caps. There's no room on this in between motor and steering servo for my esc.

Is it where stub axle comes through bearing carrier? If so it may need new bearings.

If your referring to loose in driveshaft joints, you need new driveshafts.

Little bit of play is normal nothings going to stay new and tight forever.

If its alot then pull wheel off, pop the black hex off with screw driver, remove pin that goes through the stub axle, push stub axle in, take out bearings and inspect them.

Esc finally showed up from overseas, got it and 2200 motor set in the speed runner now. Threw on the grp tyres and body to see what it looks like. Kinda funny looking but built for speed.

Still have to install electronics and solder motor and battery connections to esc...

Finished and took some 2s test runs... It's gonna be fast!!!Can't wait to get it dialed in and make some real speed runs!
Checkout the newest wheels I got too. These chrome ones should look pretty good on my speed runner too!
