    Son had a seizure

I have just had one of the longest days I can remember.

I was replacing y eldest sons radiatior and just finished evacuating the air outof the system when my wife comes out the front door of the house screaming my name and saying to me there's a problem with my youngest son and to get my (you know what in the house).. Being very well versed in CPR, Emergency Response I jumped into "THAT MODE" of a first responder to my own son.

From what I witnessed was something a father will never forget. Watching you son foaming at the mouth, convulsing in a full out seizure. One eye going up to the right the other straight left, the groans and the hardest part... Try to prevent them from hurting themselves without causing damage. The thoughts running through your head as you try to keep clear headed, calm and do the best you can for your child.

This happened in the morning, yj paramedics were at the house very fast. My eldest son made me proud with staying strong and helping take care of my mother who is 80 yrs old and house ridden.

My son is still in the hospital under observation and enough tests to keep me working until I'm 100 yrs old (no insurance).

The EMT's,the Police, the Dr.'s have been doing and have done such a geat job, I know my son is in good hands.

We don't know what caused this, he dos not drink or takes drugs, toxicology came back clear, CAT scan of the head, neck and chest are showing no signs. He is being now tested for anything cardio.

The thoughts that went through my mind in that short period of time with that seizure is something I wish on nobody. I hope and pray this is just one those things that never happens again, seizures can be caused by so many different things or a combination of things.

Please keep my son in your thoughts and prayers. My kids and my family are my life. I'm very worried and so is our entire famly...

Definitely praying for you and yours. I hope they get it figured out. As a father of 6 I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through. Keep your chin up, if you need even a sympathetic ear, let me know.

My friend had them, not something you want to witness. Reading this brought back a few pictures in my head that I did not want to remember. Good luck to you!!

    Thanks and an update

Nerves... Shot (mine, not the patient)

Well, after a barrage of M.R.I.'s CAT scans, E.K.G. 's, E.E.G.'s, Blood Enzyme workups, you name it! EVERTHING CAME OUT CLEAR!!!!!

Now this gives me a breathe of relief that nothing in the brain was found, nothing with his heart, kidneys, thyroid, you name it... They are going to be discharging him today sometime...

I knew from previous experiences that seizures like this can happen and some people may have one or two as many as 10 and not even be aware they had one. Unless they bit their tongue (my son did, tip,,, close their nostrils and they will open their mouth to breath, yes I did that). People have had a seizure and never had another one never knowing what caused it.... This is an area of the medical field that there is no specific area that covers all of what can cause a seizure. Could be nuerological, vascular, cardial, or even stress and to tp it off, could be a combination of any of this, oops, forgot possible chemical part...

So nothing found, GREAT!!! I THANK GOD!!! But, I will be slping with 1 eye open for a loooooong time....

Living trough such incident is always overwhelming, we went trough that with my 15 year old son on the 1st day of the year, such that we left our meal and rushed to the emergency, anyway a bit simmilar, he lost all sense of where he was in the middle of dinner, eyes rolled and as we carried him towards the door his body just slumped on us; could not wait for an ambulance after I read all the vital signs and he started to breath again....that must have been the scariest drive, fear, and forever daunting in my memmory, gladly he is ok now but has several tests spanning for the whole year.

I am glad that it all turned out well for you and your family too. For the next two months I had my younger son escort him from school back and forth to make sure that on their way he did not have such an incident...to this day all is good, thanks the good Lord for that.

Wish him all a great recovery and hopefully it will not return

Sooo, he may not be coming home tonight,, it's looking that way... Better safe than sorry.

I had an episode about a year ago. It looked like a seizure but they decided that I'm one of those people who are prone to losing blood pressure and blacking out of they change position too quickly after a period of rest. I bent over to pick u a pencil off the ground and when I tried sitting back up I started shaking before I blacked out. I don't know how long I was out but I think it was only a few seconds. Although it was long enough for the nurse to get there. That involved a trip to the ER for some blood tests and an iv for hydration and it rattled everyone in the classroom pretty good also.
This will TOTALLY work, saw a guy on YouTube do it

Our thoughts & prayer's go out to you & your family.
I hope your son pulls through without any issues from this.

I have been there and its not a sight for the faint of hart.

The wife & I, my Mom & Dad and Brother all went out for dinner & a movie last year.
Dinner was good, movie was ok.
On walking out to the vehicles after the movie my brother went from walking & talking fine to staggering & studdering in a instant, to stiff as a board and falling straight back, horrendously smacking the back of his head into the asphalt.

On getting to him from only a few feet away, I could tell right off he was having either a massive seizure or a stroke.
Eyes rolled up, foaming at the mouth, convulsing & blood running out from the back of his head & his ears.
EMS life-flighted him out to the hospital.
They ran a ton of test's and have never really figured out what caused it.
He has pulled through, though has some side effects from it &/or the trauma from the impact to the back of his head.
That was not something I ever want to have to deal with again, but you do what you must in those situations.
    Look out for the tree/crunch!

MY youngest is home, safe. He got home late, the entire household was exhausted... My eldest had it the worst last night as he was being waken up every few minutes and he has college in the morning.... He was Sooooo grouchy.. I let it ride as we have all gone through a lot in a 48 hr period.

Thanks all, like many, nobody knows the cause but there are things to watch out for...
Irregulat sleep patterns, STRESS (he is stessed about finals), long periods before a computer for whatever reason, long times gaming as well... Exercise or the lack of.

All of which my son falls under on that one... Sooo, a few changes and a lot of prayers are in order....

Thank you all for your well wishes and sharing your experiences....

He's back at school today, he had a good days rest and a good night's sleep...

Can't say much for the parents though... lol We are happy, but tired and not going to be sleeping very soundly for a while... Every parent goes through those..... And more than once as far as the one eye open sleeping issues.

They've given no prescriptions to follow besides his habits of study and sleep and exercise. I'll grab my leash and have him take me for a walk every day after dinner for starters (I'll bark if I have to). The computer time is going to be backed off and he will be done with finals in another week...

He is not allowed to take a bath, swim, drive a car or be alone at any time for the next 6 months per the Neurologist, so he's going to need to be patient.

Me, I'm just going to have to be patient too as my wonderful wife, who is my soulmate and means to world to me, does not handle these situations very well and is more nervous than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.... Which is the test of patience for me AND BOTH my boys. I have 2, my older son has been amazing and doing his parents proud. He too was very freaked out about his brother, he witnessed it himself. Yes, I am taking him into consideration at this time as well.

Everyone's fine at this time, we a thankful and we are moving on... The hospital bill hit... Let's just say I could have bought a pretty nice new car for what I am going to have to try to pay for this... Yup, he's not insured. If I could afford it I would of. I fall in between the cracks of anything worthy through Obamacare, I have VA benefits by my family members do not qualify for coverage that way. That's a whole different story.

    Health,,,, priceless.

    Sleeping with one eye open

Yup 2 AM... I wake up from hearing some kind of groan in the house... Wide awake, going through the house. Don't know if I dreamed it o it was someone snoring o what... Yeah like I could get back to sleep right?

Parenthood, very rewarding when done the best you can, also it's 24/7 but worth it. I'm a very Thankful and blessed person.

I may be selling off my R/C's to help pay the hospital bills. Although it's not going to put a dent in the bill.... Let's just say it would be a pretty darn nice new car.... 400 HP at least!

Health is priceless but insurance is still pricing me out of THAT market. 50% of my paycheck?? With that we would be living in a box and dumpster diving.... Not kidding. Thanks Obama.... Your great idea didn't drop insurance rates!!! (rant)

Good that he will be followed up, the incident too left me scared, such that I monitor their screen activities as well, untill today even after the MRA etc, we have no idea why it happened for my son, but he has another appointement in July so hopefully something. We joke arround now, like ehe son we do not know when you are going to do a break dance again so we have to be careful.

Our emergency is known to be some of the longest wait on earth but on that paricular day, for the first time I was quite happy of a short wait.

Unlike you, our health system is pretty stout, so we have no worries, untill now when I see the news of such matters in South of the border; it makes me always Wonder how do you guys do it and for those who cannot afford, I guess that would be another debate.

Good to hear he is going well. Hopefully its was a one-time glitch, and won't ever happen again. Hopefully you find some relief for the bill, that, in itself has to be unsettling.

Keep an eye on him at all times. I hope this doesn't scare you but we've been through this. My father in law had seizures and all tests came out normal but then it happened a couple more times. Each time they said everything was normal. The tests will only show when it's happening. Once he saw a specialist and was put on special medication it never happened again. It's been 3 years since his last one. We will pray for your son and family.

I always slept with 1 eye open, now, more than ever. All bedroom doors are open, and he is NEVER alone, not allowed to take baths, swim, drive, or go anywhere by himself....

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, he is like nothing has happened, except proper sleep patterns and time management, lighten up on the stressing on school sooooo much....
OH, and our 12 yr old Akita refuses to leave his side since he went to hospital.... Not even for a treat...

Everything seems to b as f nothing happened, except my wife and everyone's stress levels...

NOt 1 minute goes by that I am on "Full Alert"... Believe it or not that can wear you out, it's taking it's toll on my wife too.

But we are STRONG..... I feel this is that parental thing....

I do hug my kids a little longer, a real outlook on "you never know when it is anyone's last day"..

I am blessed, wanted to update everyone for thoughts and prayers... I do not feel comfortable enou to sleep soundly yet... But 5 years in the Navy prepares you for that...

I'm working from my home today, just too much going on and need to quiet down my brain a little.
