Stampede 3s gearing setup sidewinder 3

I've tried every gearing setup I could think of and the motor still hits thermal shutdown. What gearing setup should I run?

The smallest pinion and largest spur you can get your hands on.

If you want to do wheelies all the time...

At this point anything that I can run for more than 20 minutes will be fine.

Yes, it will wheelie. A lot. But if you look at Castle's gearing chart... he's fighting heat issues, not wheelie issues.

What's your set up now? You should have no temp issues with the stock gearing for the VXL or the XL-5 for that matter.

I tried running the 30t pinion and 83t spur and it hits thermal shutdown within 5 minutes.

I've been running 23/83 with no issues and the speed and performance on 2S is great. 3S may be pushing it. Is this the SCT3800 or the SV34600. I have the SV34600. I know Castle does not recommend 3S on the SCT3800 set up.

I'd try 19 with an 83. Wow. 30 is huge!

Same system on my pede so I would say bring the pinion down to a 21 or 23 and start from there. I put the 3S in my Rustler from time to time with the same set up with no heat issues but never had in my pede. The pede has such a higher center of gravity that it makes it impossible to handle.
Controlling heat issues have a lot to do with gearing and your set up. Bigger, heavier tires will increase temps along with any unnecessary binding in the drive train.
3S is not impossible with that system but you are going to have to find the gearing appropriate for it.
