    My Rustler

This is my first venture in to 2wd. I drove a 2wd Stampede and didnt like it at all. I was given the opportunity to build this one to keep. It started as a vxl. Heres the upgrades:
    Aluminum bell crank
    17mm adapters
    17mm hex wheels
Aluminum gearbox (modified to fit motor)
    2100kv motor
    Sidewinder 8th
Wild Turbo Fans (esc & motor)
    Springs
    Led light kit
    New bady

I love this thing! Its geared 29/31. On 3s it covers a full soccer field (360') in like 4-5 seconds. Pulling a slight wheelie at about 3/4 throttle. On 4s its stupid fast!

Looks good! I took my Rusty (which I built back in June) out for a "dusk run", just a few hours ago, and found myself getting tired of my current wheel/tire setup. I have some 17mm road-buggy tires that I might try out. That, or get a whole set of Anacondas or PL Road Rages. Not sure, yet.

Thanks, tire issues here as well. The stocks balloon so bad but have great traction.

The chrome ones, (grp wanna be's), have horrible traction! Tried belt dressing. Helped only very slightly.

Put foams on like JosiahPromod and used belt dressing on those helped a tad bit better but still like driving on ice.

The quest for decent tires continues. Put some LEDs on it and just got a TQi tx so I can update my TQ radio system to TQi for improved range and possible speed tests to she what it will do.

Its so fun and easy to run at night now!

GRP tires are my favorite. They grip good once you warm them up to 100-120 degrees fahrenheit but since it's becoming winter here in PA that's not easy lol. Is this for off roading or on roading?

It's about time lol, just kidding of course. I'm ready to see what it'll do, it was pretty quick when we were goofing off. I'm sure you can get some nice runs out of it.

I am currently runing GRP S7 compound tires verses the foams 2x pink previous, WOW now that's a good tire ! Sticky but really hard compound , my last GRP was an S1 and I blew one on a diff out at 96 mph , too soft for me .

Did speed run, on wet pavement, hit 82mph on 6s. Here's what my setup looks like.

Did a speed run last night. Went from 29/31 to 25/31 gearing and hit 87.6 mph. My previous best was 82mph. It was on an unfamiliar street, dark and cold with traction being limited. It took a good stretch to get to wot and I only felt comfortable with wot for a second or two. I believe it has more left in it with more space and being able to hold wot for longer. I previously used 5000mah batts for last nights runs I used 7200mah bats. Wanted to do speed run today but its just not going to happen lol!

Side note: I watched a guy hit 57mph right in front of me with his rustler on 2s!!!! As it went by us he broke tires loose so it wasnt hooking up. If it did im guessing he couldve hit 60 on a cheap 4200mah 2s batt!! If i didnt see it myself i wouldnt of believed it! It was impressive!!!

So the 2100 burnt up on me, to be expected though since its 5s rated and ive ran it on 6s since i got it!

Heres the new motor and setup. Switched out to 8g wire and 2200kv motor rated for 6s.

I have to ask.......your gear ratio slightly confuses me for 2 reasons .
    1 . It's 6s and 2200kv
2 . Tires for that speed ratio

Not knocking , just asking for educational purposes.

Same question. Why is your spur smaller than your pinion. What batteries and temps are you getting. 6S?

    Gripdod7205, yes I double stack 2 3s batts.

JosiahPromod, gearing is only for speed runs. I dont bash with that gearing. You must be extremely careful on throttle, applying throttle in a very slow, steady and smooth motion. If not i could hurt my batts by drawing voltage to low. Those are balanced, belted grp's. My previous speed run attempts with jaco foams resulted in blowing wheel and foams apart twice now.

Svr300x, thanks, the lights turned out good.

Dont know temps, when ive made speed run attempts, i only make a couple of runs then stop. Never had my temp gun there to check either though. I will next time.

Should you ever want to change it up I'd suggest replacing those s1 or s3 GRPS ( I'm guessing that's the compound you have) with some velocity S5 or S7 GRPS, and changing your gearing to 29/34 when running 6s on a 2200kv (high rpm motor but lacks torque for reverse ratios)
My opinion you would optimize and let your motor breath instead of getting hot loosing power.

I tried that gearing before and at wot it only net 92.5mph. Saw a guy with reverse gearing like that on crappy half powered batt hitting 75 on 2s! Heck if its good enough for him surely its good enough for my higher powered system! I will be changing/experimenting so will def be trying that gearing again with this new motor. I thought my grps were s7 ill have to check again. I know they are really sticky when warm. Whats your thoughts on belt dressing. It worked on foams decently and its made for rubber accessory belts on 1:1 cars so thought it may be of benefit on tires.

I use the slick GRP s7 compound instead of the grooved, anything over 100 mph they get sketchy , my buddy is running the s5 velocity GRPS and they have made very nice clean controlled passes @ 117 mph with barley any wear.
Also let the tires cool back down because if the hotter they get the less integrity they have against centrifugal force , I've learned this the expensive way lol

As far as dressing I'm not sure man, I know suntan lotion works good on foams but I have no experience with dressing for rubber or the pros /cons

    Rusty died today... R.I.P.
First this happened while doing the pass of a lifetime!!!
    Which caused this to happen...https://youtu.be/BRghmYqYKkc
Heres whow far it bounced off concrete light post (on left) and where it came to rest.
    So heres the results:
Heres one of the many spots we found parts. Notice how far from light pole it is.
Left as a complete rc, came back home like this:
