    Over heating

I ran my 4000mah traxxas lipo and after 7-10 mins or so the throttle shuts off and the esc is blinking red. I am guessing this is over heating signal. My stampede 4x4 is stock setup with trenchers only. Any idea why it is heating up so fast?

Are they 2.8 tires? Stock gearing? Any binding in the drivetrain with motor disconnected? Is is a 3s or a 2s lipo?

Yes 2.8 trenchers stock gearing. Not sure about binding. The truck is pretty new. Not too abused. The battery is 3s.

I had a 2wd vxl stampede before. Don't remember this happening. Hmm

I would hear down a tooth on the pinion due to the larger diameter tires and the fact that the Vxl system doesn't handle 3s very well.

I have a vxl on 3s with 12/50 gearing and run either the talons or swampers. It does get pretty warm but doesn't go in to thermal protect mode ever. I have an esc and motor fan which I believe helps. I do agree with trying to gear down or put stock wheels/tires back on to see if that's the problem.

If you are driving hard on 3s I am not too surprised, I would get hot pretty quick ripping around the street. Is this a VXL as well, or XL-5? Either way, I would make sure nothing is binding, and then prepare to drop a tooth or two on the motor for 3s. I have found hard running on 2s seems to be better for me with 1-2 tooth drop vs 2s.

It's a vxl. I didn't change the gearing before on a traxxas. If I drop 1 or 2 tooth on the motor, I don't need to change the spur gear? Spur is the one the motor gear touches (if I am not mistaken)?

Also I have a 4x4 slash. That one I have an esc fan. I found it doesn't over heat. Or it runs for much longer time before the light blinks. I figure his red blink was low battery.

Also my stampede don't have the explosive acceleration anymore that i would expect with a 3s. Using the same battery in the slash, it would accelerate very well like a 3s should

The acceleration issue could be a loose slipper clutch which is easy to tighten.

Would this part fit in the 4x4 stampede?

Yes 32 pitch or mod 8 gears will work.

I would stay with the 54T stock spur and get a 11T pinion and possibly a fan for motor and ESC, that should solve your problems.

I think 11t pinion is stock?
I have a fan now for esc. Still over heating though
