    Traxxas or RPM GearBox?

So which one is better? RPM or Traxxas Gearbox….I'm getting ready to do some repairs, so I thought about getting rid of the grey Traxxas gearbox and replacing it with a new one.

    Thanks!

Rpm is better but the threads strip very easy. Love the alu plate for the motor thats a big plus.

    It really depends.

The real advantage of the RPM transmission is the aluminum mounting plate, something Traxxas should have incorporated into the Magnum 272 many years ago. The biggest problem with it is consistency of manufacturing, most are made correctly, but there are those that aren't made 100% right and have various fitment issues, like the bearings not seating correctly, gaps in the case, or holes not lining up right. If you get one, look it over really well, and make sure everything looks and feels right when it is going together, if you get one that is made right, it is a good investment.

the holes will strip easier on the rpm transmission... but don't be a hulk like me and use proper hand tools... I used to take shortcuts by using power tools, but found it way too easy to strip stuff.... now I can feel what's right with my hands....

For $14 you can buy the strc motor plate to go inside the trx tranny. Helps with the flexing and keeps the motor from slipping out of mesh. Also is supposed to help with heat issues. Haven't tested it for heat yet but definitely works for the slipping and flexing.

I have a HR transmission case, it works great. I mean I wouldn't suggest it if you use a wheelie bar because I heard people bend them when they crash... I'd just get a Traxxas one and get the aluminum motor plate.
