    Battery Temperature While Charging?

I only own two batteries, one a Traxxas 8.4v 3000 mAh Nimh that came with my Bandit, the other a Venom 9.6v 4200 mAh.
I normally charge the Traxxas at 3 amps and the Venom at 4.2 amps. I forgot that I had my charger set for 4.2 amps and charged the Traxxas at this rate. It took about 45 minutes to charge and both the battery and the charger got up to about 143. I suspect this is pretty hot for a battery while charging. I was wondering why it seemed so hot and then I remembered that I had left it on 4.2 amps. I'm certain I've charged the 3000 mAh several times at this setting. As far as I can tell, the battery performs as it should.

I just charged my 7 Cell Traxxas Powercell series 5 5,000mAh battery on my Onyx 230 charger. The battery was not completely deal. I set it to charge at 5A and it ran about 4.95 max, charged for 60 minutes, put 4500mAh into the battery and my cells were around 115 degrees when done.

At the 50 minute mark, they were 89 Degrees
At the 52 minute mark, they were 90 Degrees
At the 54 minute mark, they were 94 Degrees
At the 56 minute mark, they were 96 Degrees
At the 58 minute mark they were 104 Degrees
At the 60 minute mark they were 115 Degrees

Thanks for the response pparks. As you can see, my post was from a year ago. Since then I've purchased a 11.1v lipo, so needless to say the NiMh really don't get used any more.

No problem. I figured I would post for anybody else who has the same question along the way.
