    motor swap

if I get the 2wd slash with the VXL and TSM can I drop a smaller motor in it if I wanted to? would I need to change out anything for components if I do so (speed control)?

If you want to you could just run it in training mode?

part of where I would be running at to start doesn't allow brushless. even in training mode. was thinking that the "upgraded" kit would be a good start to get some preinstalled durability parts

If you are limited to brushed RTR system, your best bet would likely be to install a XL-5 with a Titan motor.

long and short, sounds like the overall swap isn't really worth it.
