Nevermind we are using a couple of the bearings in there. Does it look like there is an upgraded servo coming in the new truck? The new front-end indicates with an X at the end of the servo part number

The driveshafts are the same diameter (5mm IIRC), but the pins have increased in diameter at both ends:

stub axle/drive shaft pins increased from 3.0mm to 3.5mm
drive cup/drive shaft pins increased from 3.5mm to 4.0mm

Below are the ring and pinion comparison photos. You can see the larger tooth size on the 8s-spec ring and pinion gears. They are substantially stronger than the 6s-spec gears.

I'm experiencing some binding between the input gear and the center diff. I have the 6S and 8S setups side-by-side. The stock/6S setup with the stock bulkhead/slipper/output gear spin nice and smooth while the new/8S setup with new bulkhead/cush drive/center diff spins really rough/tight. If I loosen the gear cover a fair amount things free up, but I'm wondering if the bulkhead parts might be a little out of spec.

    Anyone else having this problem?

How is the mesh between your input gear and center diff? Mine is pretty tight and causing some binding.

It looked like some type of lithium type grease in the center diff ? Also looks pretty thick ? Would you compare it to 100k or 500k traxxas diff fluid ?

    Thanks.

Great pictures! Looks like you can use the telemetry RPM magnet in the 54T gear. Did the kit also come with a place for the RPM pickup? From what I seen in the photo of the chassis it doesn't look like it, but Traxxas could make a gear cover down the road that could handle it.

Can hardly believe it, but I sold my X-Maxx! I had already swapped the ESC to a Max6 back in February, so I would have had to buy another VXL-6S in order to really take advantage of the upgrade kit with receiving the core charge back. Doing the math, it wouldn't be that much more expensive for me to just purchase the V2 X-Maxx. Another big factor was I spend most of my time tinkering and flying my quadcopter, so I haven't been doing much with my ground vehicles lately. Nonetheless, the X-Maxx will be missed! Who knows, I might just get another one when the V2 arrives.

According to Traxxas it's 2 million weight oil in the center diff. Sounds about right.

Do you guys know what would be nice? Is if Traxxas comes out with rubber wheels for their new wheelie bar down the road. The hard plastic wheels will start to look bad after the first time they hit rocks. Rubber wheels always stay looking good after cleanup.

The upgrade parts are impressive. Should be well worth it. Looking forward to spring to test it out. Got the rear end done and found the rear gears were getting worn so perfect timing Traxxas thank you.

    Thanks.

2 million weight. So it's as close as your going to get to a locked diff, without out it being locked.

I like that they went that thick. With 8s power and all that torque through the drivetrain it wont be as locked as you think.

I have had the bl5/1340 for 7/8 months and running a slipper delete for about 3/4 months have been looking forward to something like this. I'm also pretty happy about thinker fluid. It makes sense. Just need the power up and or gen 2 Xmaxx to get to a chop shop so I can cherry pick the parts I want.

New 8s X-Maxx Sysytem and Drivetrain

Wish they did this upgrade for diff gears on the E-Revo Brushless. Nothing but problems with stock diffs. Had to do what they call the LOSI LST diff mod. Basically same thing Traxxas did for the X-Maxx but you have to modify a ton of stuff to get bigger/stronger gears to fit. The direct swap for the X-Maxx is awesome.

Does the upgrade kit describe in the instructions using different viscosity oil to change the front/rear bias or does this seem not as adjustable as a 1/8 scale buggy center diff ? I want those front tires on the ground digging in and not pretending to be pizza cutters ! The video does make it look to be less tire balooning.
