    Thumbs up SST Returns

Ayden Received the new edition SST yesterday.
It came from AMain Hobbies out of California
Via RW Rapid Warehousing On Amazon.
The new unit comes with the battery from the 1:16 slash (trx connector ID 1200mah)
Also comes with a ac trickle charger.
The best I can tell there are no other changes that I can see at this time.

It still doesn't show up on the LaTrax or Traxxas website and my local hobby shop says that they haven't even given him a re-release date yet.

Very sorry to have to change my response but I think you will be very happy to hear that the differentials and spider gears are all now metal. I read that they were in the teton forum so I had to take mine apart to check and i have held the metal spider gears in my hand.

    Yippee!!!!

Oh wow. If this is true about metal spider gears, this would be a really fantastic move by Traxxas. They listened to the complaints and responded all out!

I will be getting the two 7579X's immediately upon availability for our existing SST to thrash and bash. After that, who knows, maybe another 76044-5 will soon join our shelf.

Do spider gear diffs get oil rather than grease like the ball diffs?

Yes, very good of Traxxas listening to customers and reading the web.

Original LaTrax SST part number is 76044-1, new truck part number is 76044-5.

IIRC diff is physically same, just all metal now, so it would be grease.

Off to check my LHS for new version in that hawt orange!

So... If I already have the upgraded axle shafts and then I add these diffs, what becomes the "break point" in the drive train? The hexes?

I've been lucky with the stock diffs (knock on wood). I bought all those TA ball diff parts, but have yet to need them. I'll get a couple of sets to toss in the toolbox.

The plastic spur gear is next. There is a metal version of it available from Hot Racing as part number SLTN60M5. I am not sure about the plastic hexes as I upgraded those with the GPM aluminum and skipped finding out if they break.

After that, I do not know what breaks. Maybe then, it will finally be ready for brushless.
