    First Custom RC Build

Hi there, I am wanting to build a custom rc and I need some advice on planning and building it.
    OK, here are my specs:

    Twin Brushless Motors (Velineon)
    All Wheel Drive
    Two Speed Transmission
    Locking Differentials
    Independent Suspension
    Twin Servo Steering
Four Shocks Per Wheel (Two in regular setup, two like the E-Revo)
    Portal Axles
    Constant Velocity Shafts
    Four LiPo Batteries
    Land Rover Defender Body

I would like to use a Traxxas rc as a starting point.

I like to think outside the box too. I also want to try a dual motor setup some day. I found this diagram on line a few months ago on how to wire it up. I hope this helps.

the biggest problem I see is the combination of portals and independent suspension, if I were you I would do one or the other. As far as planning, a good place to start is a truck, for your build I would probably recommend either a TRX-4 or Summit, the both have locking diffs, but the TRX-4 has portals, a Land Rover Defender body, and is set up mostly for trail, the Summit has the independent suspension and the lay down revo style shocks. For your build I would highly suggest a TRX-4. Another thing you could do is get some aluminum and make your own frame, most other parts can be found on ebay or at your lhs. What ever way you go I wish you the best of luck and I hope you'll keep us nosey forum members posted, also we love pics!

I found these on the interwebs:
    https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/rc4z-a0099.htm
(could these be used on independent suspension?)

With tremendous amounts of modification... maybe. I still think it would work in your favor if you just went with one or the other. Something to think about is doing ifs and a solid portal in the back.

I was cruising around the interwebs and I came across a brand of RC motors called AXI which brought back memories of the hobby lobby catalog got from my cousin and I must have gone through it a hundred times! Anyway, could a AXI motors be used for my project? I'm wanting to go for MAX torque, speed, and sheer awesomeness.
(I know, in my first post I said I wanted a Velineon motor but I don't want to limit myself to one brand.)

You can buy a summit and make it twin vxl systems. But it's not very practical at all to have twin motors because they take up more space and use more battery mah then a normal castle single motor.

I say you buy a summit put a momba monster system in it upgrade it a ton and then put the trx4 body on it.

So I've narrowed my motor choices down to either this:

    or this:

I don't want something with crazy speed where my cars doing backflips when you gun it!
