Photobucket NOT Allowing to Display Pics in a Forum

Just got a notification from Photobucket that my pictures and more than likely Videos have been removed in 3rd party applications like this Forum.
    Example: https://forums.traxxas.com/showthrea...=1#post6328494
They want me to upgrade to a payment plan as per this message: PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN for $2.49/month to use forum posting pics being displayed. -- not gonna happen. According to Photobucket, Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc.
You will have to go to my Photobucket page to see Teton Pics, Videos: http://s1049.photobucket.com/profile.php?do=editpassword/Bi...?sort=3&page=1
Photobucket used to be a good way to post pics on this forum, not anymore. Sorry, not my fault! I have enjoyed posting on this forum and very disappointed, but I no longer have RC vehicle anyway.

Thumbs down Continuous Loading Web Page with Advertising

I noticed that even after 5 minutes PHOTOBUCKET web site is still loading and giving you pop-ups and automatically keeps on playing advertising videos off to the side. You cannot pause these videos and if you click on it you will be transferred to another web page! I'll bet this is continuous eating up my usage! This is not a web site anyone should be associated with and I (more than likely) DELETE MY ACCOUNT from Photobucket. To stop these you must pay $2.49/month.

Just took 2-3 minutes just to LOGIN in to Photobucket. I have deleted my account which will disappear July 9. Until then I have a chance to restore it, but that ain't happening. I have many of those pics on my computer anyway.

Even before they stopped allowing third party hosting the amount of spam and advertising bogging the browser down while trying to use their site is ridiculous. You can link pics on facebook to the forum just fine and I don't see them changing anything as they monetize their platform in other ways besides charging the user.

I am very leary about Facebook and i don't have a Facebook account. I am not interested in giving my last name, phone number or location anywhere on the internet (my security protection). People who post where they are are just stupid. I don't even give my date of birth. I do not use paypal or credit cards on the internet anymore (credit card got hacked) -- I let my work associate buy for me.
I saw your camera on your Teton. That's cool giving a great view but what is the antenna for? The antenna is a cause for concern on jumps or aggressive driving --- as a result i found your video a bit boring especially as you are driving slow. What is the circuit board for? Is that alum platform that camera mounts on --- is it hampering air flow or do have heat sink w/fan? I find the stock antenna for Teton remote not very good with range of only about 150 feet.

Apparently some people are charged $39.99/month or $399.99/year as per Twitter post: https://twitter.com/manic_intent/sta...80127097573378 OR https://www.buzzfeed.com/katienotopo...3Y#.ikQVVqyzJB . This could happen if you are a business and have alot posted to your Ebay, Amazon, web site or Blog site. Traxxas needs to give us the ability to upload photos from our own computer as this will only get worse with time and other providers (like Facebook) may join the "Ransom" for your pics bandwagon! This is contributing to the death of Forums.

I understand your feelings about personal information and the internet.

The antenna on the Teton is connected to a 5.8ghz video transmitter, which broadcasts the video from the camera to my fpv goggles to drive it. The plate is made of plexi-glass which supports the camera, vtx, and battery that powers them. I have monitored motor temperatures closely after reading all the reports of motors burning up on the first use. I do not run this vehicle at full throttle (it's set on training mode), or on paved surfaces when very hot due to the low ground clearance and the heat absorbed by the chassis from hot surfaces. I am not concerned about turning the vehicle over as I do not drive it in a "bashing" fashion. I have a erevo, stampede, and the teton and have never turned any of them over but then I am not into bashing either. I agree the stock teton radio range is dismal and that is why i replaced the receiver and transmitter with a tqi tsm system with full antenna which is mounted to the rear body support under the body giving it far more range than I use on a vehicle this size.

Actually there is another post on this here. If you want some good reading look at it. Photobucket is more or less holding many peoples photo's for ransom. I paid the forty dollars for a year before any of this started. $399 no way!

Traxxas hasn't and they won't. I see the point but look at it from a business prospective: they store our pics so they need to buy extra space for storage. On top of that it could provide a back door to hacking, virus, et al.

Storage is dirt cheap. I would think they don't want to allow anyone top upload anything to the server in fear of hacking seeing as they appear to be a frequent target.

    WOW

I have a ton of posts using pics hosted by Photobucket.. They dynamically load Ads and charge people with Pay Per Click styled advertising market.

I guess that wasn't enough. However their storage fee's.... Ridiculous..... I use a TV antenna because
I feel the Television industry gets enough from their TV commercials. So, I guess a lot of people will not see the pics that I used to assist my posts..

Exactly what i said on my last sentence in my post #6. Will Tapatalk be next to follow Photobucket, or maybe Facebook?. So now not only do you need to make an account for Traxxas, you also need to make an account somewhere else for posting pictures - to most people this is not user friendly, a hassle, and not worth it. Forums need to be more user friendly, otherwise slowly die as now alot of useless good threads. Also if i were to change Photo suppliers, you cannot change or EDIT any previous post on this Forum as this edit feature is only good for a short amount of time (less than 30 minutes). I refuse to pay for extras, as I am poor.

The ad-botting started to get REALLY bad on PB, I guess that, and their $60 no-ad plan failed to generate enough revenue, so they took the ransomware approach with their $400 plan, "want to see your stuff, pay us lots of money". I guess they think if you are going to dump $1000 into your hobby, you have more money so people can see your build. If they would have gone with a more reasonable plan, like $20 a year for unlimited 3rd party posting, 1gb of storage, and very limited ads, I would have done it; perhaps $40-50 a year for 5gb of storage and no ads as an upgrade plan seems reasonable. But, $400 (399), no thanks.

They honestly gave you the option of $2.49 a month and you didn't jump on it. For what you can do on PB. I think it is well worth that. Nothing in this world is free and if it is! It is only for a short period.

While I was here. I tried looking at your videos and could not see anything but an error page. Have you looked lately? Just curious.

Worked like a champ. I have gone through several of my threads and posts to see if my pics were still there and noticed some were gone and some were not. I can still post to a 3rd party but I have to copy and paste it now.

I hope I am not jinxing myself by posting this but am hoping they are allowing me to do so till my subscription expires. 9 months from now. It will truly be no big loss if they do take it away but maybe some people are getting a bit confused as to what is really going on. I do know they did away with the 50gb deal, because it is no longer on their site. Surely, they were thinking this would get rid of the people that were using it for free. No doubt they took the wrong route. The main reason I am puzzled is how much money they could have made if they kept the 50 gb per year subscription for $60. I can only imagine how many people would have paid it. 50 gb is an awful lot of storage. That is way beyond my even trying, to figure that out. I surely know my math and can make a wild guess as to how much money they are losing now. Anyone have a good guess? As for the Ads. I don't have a clue as to how bad they are or were for the free user, cause I don't get any at all.
I have 2,300 pictures on my computer that use 1.1 GB. You should re-size all your pics before uploading to web photo service. Re-size to 800-1000 pixels wide will save alot of space. My 2 year old computer screen is about 1300 pixels wide and most forums are even smaller than that. I do post pics to an aftermarket car web site and the maximum is 800 pixels wide - no need to have it bigger. If you were making a calendar, you would like to have it bigger.
I no longer have an RC car, and no longer pay for anything on-line as my credit card was previously hacked. I am also poor. I do not condon RANSOM photo demands and will not be a sucker. Like i said, Traxxas needs to let people upload from "my computer"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can certainly relate sir! Especially about being poor. I think the government want's it that way. I have worked with them for 29 years and know all about it. I also know what it feels like to have your card hacked. To top that I lost my wallet and had nothing. It gave me a feeling of hopelessness. Big dummy I was, must have made it easy to figure out my pin and had my money withdrawn from 5 different banks in one day. That's not including the 3 they tried, till they figured out the pin.

Less posts=less traffic and less people see the paid advertising on the site. I think they will be the ones to suffer.

When a site that sells advertising starts losing traffic, the companies that advertise there know...

imgur.com is free and you can hotlink photo's from there I believe. Just upload them and don't share to the community to keep from getting spammed by people commenting. Or share and don't care who comments.

I used to use comcast back in the day as they allowed 1G or 2G of storage for "personal websites". I made a dummy website, then just uploaded all my rc photo's via ftp. But, they dropped supporting personal websites. Which in and of itself wasn't bad, but the fact that they didn't adjust what you paid for their service because of it was what annoyed me most. If I had an alternative to comcast for internet and tv... I'd use it.

I've so many posts on this site with pics from Photobucket as the host it is not funny.

Even if I moved to another provider, all those older posts still would point to some pretty helpful pics...

This is just a point, the other is I have a LOAD of posts with pics from them... Good Ole Greed!!!

I just looked at their plans... $59.00 a year for the smallest plan.... That's highway robbery to me... So, I'm doing absolutely nothing but trying to block their embedded ads as soon as you go to your account.

How much do you want to bet they drop their prices if they have 1/2 a brain. Or they will lose a lot.

They say their plan is fair in their postings/ads and documentation on their site. BUNK! You can have you own shared, hosted website and just use it for pics cheaper than what Photobucket wants.

    I'm deleting my account shortly.

    Lightbulb Upload Pics from Twitter

Just did this. From a Twitter picture, don't click on the picture, right click on it, then select "Copy image address". Click on the "insert image" in Traxxas (i went to "Go Advanced" instead of "post Quick Reply", and "paste" that image address! You see the result below, so pics can be posted from Twitter. I had no luck doing it from Google+ or Google Photos as there was no".jpg" just web link. I don't have any RC pics on Twitter. This pic is my new signature for e-mails! it's a large hanging pic 4' x 2' wood frame w/plexiglass cover (without the Logo) that i have hanging on my wall!. Won it from Maxell in 1989 by buying cassettes. It's # 200 of 200 (last one!).

I have over 19,000 posts, many with pics. So ALL my posts with pics are held for ransom.. I can't go back and change the URLs and reload all those pics into a new account.
As far as Google, or using social media accounts. No thanks. I'm just not into that... I prefer being on the forums.

I am the same way Nironaught! I have no interest all all in twitter or for that matter. The only thing I use my phone for is buisness, which i don't get paid for it. And texting. If I go away for extended periods I download Skype to keep track of a my online pool players...love it! pool that is!

I'm sorry you misread my post, the Traxxas pic with 2 trucks with Flags is from the Traxxas Twitter account. Traxxas posted that pic on Twitter! I have no idea who the owner's are. I did supply a link to Traxxas Twitter account! The Maxell pic is mine - it's hanging on my wall.

    Lightbulb Twitter Features

The good thing about Twitter is it's FREE and you can put your own unique name and you don't have to pinpoint your home location or address (think this is better than Facebook for Privacy concerns). You can make a custom picture which appears beside each of your posts. You can also make a custom header for your home page, size is 1500 pixels wide by 420 pixels tall. It is free to join and you chose who you want to follow, examples: Traxxas, Traxxas Racing, Traxxas Girls, Traxxas Life, and many others if you search for RC Car. It's fairly easy to use and you choose who you follow. I got the pics below from Traxxas Racing Twitter. See my Post #24 which shows how to post pics on here from Twitter!

I was on Photobucket today, looking at what pictures I had on there that I wanted to transfer off before I deleted me account. As soon as I hit the page I was blasted by adds, including one from Photobucket to allow me to browse their site add-free for a few bucks. Makes you wonder what they are smoking...

I think now Flickr will be my weapon on choice for pictures. It takes a little getting used to, but I think I have it down...

    Exclamation Final Word + Tutorial

Please do not respond to this, and leave this one as last post. If you want to make suggestions for picturing hosting websites post it here. Photobucket is not a very good hosting site due to cost and many pop-ups (even just to sign up). imgur and flickr are the latest best hosting sites for pictures to put on Traxxas Forum. 2 other good ones are Facebook (so i have been told, i don't do Facebook for personal security reasons), and Twitter . Twitter tutorial for uploading pics, see my previous post #24 and #29, below 2 pics are from Twitter. I had no luck with Google+ or Google Photos as the pics on URL web address do not end with required: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif. I am also going to give you a little tutorial on how to load up pics on Traxxas Forum, as the thread https://forums.traxxas.com/showthrea...sting-Tutorial isn't complete as it doesn't have pics, my first pic below is 800 pixels wide, 2nd one is 847 pixels wide, and they are visible (it may re-size it down a bit). See these 2 pics for process - click on "insert image" icon. only put 1 image on 1 line, start another line for 2nd image!

That was a very dumb move on photobuckets part. I deleted my account as well. They are going to lose so much money from loss of traffic it's not even funny. I just signed up with imgur, and I already like it better as I'm not getting spammed by a thousand ads everytime I click to do something.

They could create a new site just to host pictures on this site only, so, they won't have to use the upload feature on this forum. Pictures could be automatically resized to 640x480 and that's it. HDDs are cheap today and bandwith can be managed, just thinking out loud for solutions

Like i said before, I have 2,300 pictures on my computer that use 1.1 GB which isn't much, most 800 wide or smaller, so let's do the "Upload from My Computer". Unfortunately i don't have any from my previous RC Teton.

As a Network Administrator, I've 8 servers here.
You need to do the math. A good qualilty Western Digital server Hard drive that can handle multi session is $300.00 each for a 4 TB drive, Of coarse what is the total amount of disk space you think Traxxas would need? How many active members?
Now I would say they would need 16 Terrabytes which means your going to need a few of those drive and you probably want them mirrored in a RAID60 configuration. That would require a very expensive controller, about $600.00.

Traxxas websites are in a data center or "The Cloud" as people say. You think having a dedicated server in the cloud attached to the web server logically is a cheap monthly expense?

Oh, and those pictures, and the forums, the Main Traxxas site, this all needs to be maintained with security patches, firewalls and all the data would also need to be backed up in a differential styled backup so you can go back so many days to retrieve things.

It is an expense.... Just maintaining this forum is a job, and it does get maintained, security patches and updates, etc.

How many R/C Mfr's have their own forum site?? This thing with Photobucket is just plain greedy. They have so many ads and pop ups, tracking cookies and if you read their terms of service they reserve the right to sell your email address and personal information for marketing purposes.
