    My new gaming rig

Building a new pc. Right now my issue is that my mono only had 1 usb 2.0 and I need 3. Any suggestions? I am having a hard time finding a good usb hub for inside the case. And do you think I will notice a difference between a Samsung 960 evo and a slower ssd?
    Here are my specs
    https://pcpartpicker.com/profile.php?do=editpassword/jimdog/saved/pqH3CJ

My plan is to overclock the ryzen 1700 that I bought from silicon lottery to 3.9ghz and maybe overclock the ram too since I hear that the ryzen processors respond very well to faster ram.

I'll probably ditch the hdd in favor of another 1tb ssd.

The display setup will be something like monitors 1-3 on display port 1 for gaming, a monitor dedicated to the 3d printer, one for discord/ steam/ hwmonitor, and one for my work bench on display port 2, and a tv on the hdmi.

I will probably try using aster so I can work at each monitor as if it was a different desktop.

    Any recommendations?

nice looking setup. what do you mean it only has 1 usb 2.0? I spy two usb 2.0 ports on the photo.

and you will love that EVO M.2 drive. they are nasty fast! i benchmarked my kingston ssd vs my corsair M.2 and here's what i found...

    *Kingston SSD;
    10MB sample
    374MB/s read
    267MB/s write
    0.10ms access time

    *Corsair x4 M.2 NVME;
    10MB sample
    2400MB/s read
    1300MB/s write
    0.02ms access time

and nothing wrong with a cheap spinning HD for storage. I do all my video work off the M.2 and move it to the HDD for storage when i'm done.

Looks like a good build. I don't know much about the MasterFan pros, but looking at their specs... CFM rating is a tad low, but you do get RGB

A recommendation, purchase a Windows 10 key with a online retailer that sells software keys... you can easily save $50-$60 doing it that way.

I already have the fans. And i was planning to get my is off eBay. Sound like the Samsung will be well worth it then.

What about monitors guys? Has to be 1080p and 21 to 24 inch. And preferably in the $100 range. I have too many options. Edgeless would be nice too.

I'm a big monitor guy so I tend to spend more in the monitor department. But, if you can find a 24" IPS in your budget that would be ideal.

What types of games would you be playing? IPS typically have slower response times (~5ms), but their consistent color throughout it's viewing angles (178 degrees) is usually worth it, especially with multi-monitor setups since you're never really looking at the side monitors straight-on.

I would be playing fps and racing games. I like the thin bezel screens. I have been looking at the viewsonic vx2376smhd.

Not to derail OP's thread, but there are a lot of better options than Alienware for gaming PCs. Ever since Dell purchased it, their quality has gone downhill IMO.

My Wi-Fi/ bluetooth adapter was delivered today! Too bad I work until bed time. Then have to drive an hour to get home. Then go back to work at 6am. But hey. That's how I'm finding this project. Horay for 15 hour days!

So is that a computer? Don't know much about them, but it looks like it's pretty fun to put one together like that
Doesn't need to be fancy. Just needs to run.

It is a computer. It will actually be a very fast computer (hopefully).

I got my ssd yesterday! They claim 2500mbps read speeds. My current dad is 540mbps and the hdd that my games are on might be at 200mbps.

It lives!! It was a bit rough getting the os installed but right now it's downloading my steam games. It's lit up brighter than a Christmas tree. Startup takes about 30 sec. Most of it is bios time. The windows loading screen flashes for about 1 second before going to login. I want to find a way to reduce that bios time. My old computer usually started in around 20s.

That is a beast!!! I want!!!

Back in the day you could turn off the memory test to save some time on boot up, that is likely what is taking most of that 20 seconds. Does your BIOS allow you to control what it checks and what it doesn't?

I'll have to look. It started pretty unstable but it is getting better. On day 1 getting as far as the login screen was iffy sometimes. Fixed some settings and that issue was resolved. I ran prime 95 and about 30 seconds in the computer restarted. Did the same in dirt 4 which stressed the gpu. A few restarts later (no setting changes) I can run furmark and prime 95 together for half an hour with the gpu at 55c and the gpu at 65c. I did get a random blue screen once yesterday but it seems to be getting more stable as time goes on.

My issues now at at the screens. I spent $100 on a displayport mst hub. Nvidia surround doesn't work with displayport mst apparently. I also need to figure out how to set the displays to one input so they don't cycle inputs every time a program goes to full screen. I also need to figure out how to connect my Xbox 1 s controller. It's basically just ironing out the bugs now before I try overclocking the gpu and ram.

I am going to enjoy the upgrade from 1050p 21in monitors to 1080p 24in monitors.

I got this at panda express last night.
