My rustler has Hobbywing motor and vxl 6s esc. I had a sidewinder 8th in it and it was horrible on anything over 3s it kept shutting down. Even tried reverting back then updating software vrs. So now i have vxl6s in it(havent taken it out yet).

Had a castle sct combo in p4de and it hated 3s but drove it 3s anyway, month later, 3800kv motor was in trash can and I got an sc8 esc which ive been impressed with and a kershaw 2700kv motor which is one of the best purchases ive made. Run on 4s with no issues.

The wifes slash has the Trx Vel sys with 3500kv and on 2s is perfect. For it.

In a nutshell, in my opinion & experience the lowest kv you can afford with highest power esc you can afford. Then you have options from 2s batts and tame gearing to at least 4s(with most decent 980-120 amp esc's with slightly aggressive gearing and dont have to worry about heat issues.

I need just one more rc, then Im done,

    opinions?? will the motor fit?
If i can find a low kv with the sc8, it will be an option
if not, the max10sct will have to do, with something like a hobbywing 3200kv or leopard 3600kv

That can may not fit. Mine does but I don't run the stock tranny case. The 1512 is a 2650kv. You can always modify the gearbox and make it fit.

I agree with Grip, I tried mounting a 2200kv and it didn't work, then I tried a 2650kv and still had to some modding.

This is a 2858 motor which means, in case of Leopard motors, a length of 58mm and a diameter of 28mm. It can deliver 780W which will not be much of an upgrade. I meant the 3660 Leopard one, which you linked to in post #19.

Leopard is a good quality brand with very affordable prices in my experience.

The Castle 2650Kv is a great motor, but not a direct fit. You have to dremel parts from the chassis before it fits.
That is a combo with a price which is lower than what you normally pay for the motor alone.

Rule of thumb: most of the time if something looks too good to be true, it appears too good to be true.

oh ok, if i can find a good deal with the sc8, than ill go with that as the combos seem to be cheaper. If i have to buy a motor seperatly, than ill go with the max 10 sct. Just to make it clear what esc i have decided on. How about a castle motor with the max 10 sct? i am not going to go 1/8 scale motor because i dont want to modify my gearbox

I switch too much between the Pede 4x4 forum and the Rustler forum. What I said about the 2650 goes for the Pede 4x4 chassis. You indeed need a different or modded gearbox for it in case of the Rustler.

I would never use a 2650 for a Rustler except when I wanted to do speed runs. It's a quite heavy motor.

The combo of post #19 has a motor that will fit without gearbox mods.

Don't get me wrong, it's a sick setup but it doesn't sound like that's what you're after. My 4x4 pede is my basher, and I still use the VXL setup from the Rustler in that. I'm going with Leopard or Kershaw when I kill the VXL.

Since you are coming from a brushed combo, I would never make the huge step to a 1/8 combo like Grip explained.
You can jump from a go kart into an F1 car, but if that is wise.....

Wow, I'm a week late to the party. For me, I have a Castle Creations Mamba X with a Castle Creations Neu-Castle 2400kv motor running on 3S. I have these systems in my Sla2h, Rusty, and P2de. Pure bliss.

the mamba X is way out of my budget, that is why i am going with the max 10 sct. I wont be using anything crazy, only 2-4s,but primarily 2s. will the neu castle 2400kv fit in the rustler without modifications?

The esc you're looking at is 3S max, and 60 amps is fairy weak. Save a little more money you'll be happy you did.

Get the motor specs and measure. I'm almost positive you can make it fit, you just may need to notch out the tranny case in the back.

Sorry for going back a step but, what kind of speeds will I get with a sidewinder sct waterproof 3800kv?

the Velineon seems faster but people say the castle is better

Here's another combo that I think would run well on 2s and an occasional 3s(geared properly) The HW WP SC8 will allow room to grow in the future if desired and can be had with a program card that makes adjustments a breeze, also comes with a fan

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hobbywing-EZ...0AAOSwmLlX7cY5

This motor should move that Rustler just fine. I have the 1/8th scale version(2150kv)in my Slash and it's been great. This is only $30 so not like you'll have big money invested.

    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXETXT&P=3

You'll have a solid esc for the future and about $100 in the whole set-up. Good luck!

At the end of the day, you'll have to make the decision. You've been given tons of advice. If you're going brushless and plan to stay on 2S. Dcuda's last suggestion will be great. If you want to increase voltage you're going to want(need) a lower kv motor. 100 bucks for a brushless setup is awesome.
