New owner.. looking for upgrades after seeing your vids..)
My first choice was Castle 2028 800kv with Max5 ESC. After searching motor mounts (not easy) I ended up with fastlanercs mounts, center drive shaft and slipper eliminator... 50/55T pionion and 45,50T Spur gears to test. Now I'm also thinking of TP Power 5860 1440kv 8s (112mm) and TP 5870 990kv (22hp) as new alternatives.
Has anyone experience of TP motors and will the new TP 5870 (122mm, 57,8mm) even fit?
After seeing many uses 48T pinion and 54T Spur gear, still wheelys and tons of torque... I decided to test 50,55T pinion with upgraded alu heat sink with dual fans was recommended. Thoughts?
Sorry, can't upload and pics of my X maxx 8s Green with MadMax 220mm wheels etc...
Thankful for thoughs
Update: Ordered TP 5860 1440kv 8S today) new gears 25T-30T-35T pinion, 45T spur etc... expect 65+MPH to 90MPH range to play with) 100C batts etc.. more torque and speed vs 2028 800kv, another league dealer said. Standing flips on request (not for me) well, it will be interesting to try and see...
Man. That’s a ton of power and a ton of gear. I don’t hear much about TP power compared to Castle/Leopard.
You can bet on enough power to do backflips for sure. I hope to see of vids of this monster in action. Also, let us know what you think about the fastlanerc driveshaft. I’m am going with a Leopard setup and am guessing that my stock centershaft will be the first thing to go.

Maxx 8S
Yes, driveshaft and battery temp is main concern, 130ºF red sign. Was recommended not to use 25/40C batts, 100C not to have heat issues, also updated ESC Max5 fan... vids will come later
I also never heard about TP, after reading and recommendation i thought i try )

Well if you going big, GO BIG )
So these TP motors are coming more popular. Has any one run one yet compared to the Leopard 5113V2 which is supposed to be the best. I do see the YP is $250 compared to the Leopard $85. Big difference - keep us updated
Keep in mind that the stock motor is maybe 4000 watts....so jumping to 15k will break driveline parts for sure

Xmaxx 8S - Max 5 • Leopard 58113 V2
I've seen some pretty impressive videos of those TP Power motors.. 163mph on 8S is insane..
The motor y'all are talking about has a ton of amp draw... I don't even know if there is an ESC capable of sending out that much power (unless there is one that costs like 700$ that I have never heard of..)
MERV, Rustler VXL, X-Maxx

Ok)) the dealer who selling these setup have good feedback... he said the Max5 ESC will handle TP 5860-V1 1440kv with upgraded fan etc. There is an ESC, MGM X-40063-3 HV 15s 400A incase u wonder.. The negative is less run times, ex MaxAmps 9000mAh XL 8S give 36 minutes average run time they write, my setup maybe run 20+ min... so i buy more batts) is ok.

whats the point? LOL 8bhp.. I don't want to trash any dealer in a forum before the result speaks for them self...i let u know soon.
That motor on 8S will be silly powerful if you pair it appropriately with a 1/5 scale esc. You guys splitting hairs is just juvenile.
What motor mount are you using with it?
Why not stick with the stock motor? Yes the 2028 has more torque, but won't the stock be faster? (sorry, thats just my opinion).
Some updates and pics for those who are interested...
After some modifications to fit Max5 ESC and TP5860 motor, it’s almost ready.. decide not to use ESC mount and 58mm heatsink, don’t want many cables and stuff sticking up like home made..no offense to anyone... Max5 ESC been modified, I now have 8Volts for the motor fans and 12volts for green lights/front and rear lights stabilized out of Max5 and don’t need additional battery(s) as first planned... cool!
also traxxas telemetry has been replaced to Graupner X-8E with GPS-module receiver, Gyro for TSM with all GPS data/speed, volt and temp etc direct to the X-8E. Special chemicals needed to solder motor to ESC now (short distances, hard cables) and rebuild charger cables for Bat-Safe.. re-modifying stock gear cover to fit and upload some pics later...
Enjoy![]()

Sure.. Will test different gears and ratio 50/25 1:2, 50/30 1:1.67 and 45/30 1:1.5
Tiresize and ESC programming are also counting at full throttle, i cant calculate the speed but GPS will show..![]()
Looks sick! What wheels is that? I think I need that motor to![]()

Incase someone consider Integy skid plates for 8S, the rear plate/shield need to be modified little to fit.. Aerodynamic looksome pics with Murat-rc lights
These were cool but heavy..
Now, all cables have to be laid and everything has to be adjusted and tested, almost ready

Looks Good!! Vix how do you like Graupner X-8E telemetry radio? Have you used it yet?
I have that Integy front skid on one of my X's.
Traxxas connectors are good and all but if you're running say a Max 5, I feel something like the cc 6.5s are a must.
I'm trying to switch even my low power stuff over to them.
