Theyíre mediocre at best. Overpriced, and donít provide the proper amps for a large vehicle.

I have lots of SMC batteries, I like them, but like so many things here, more people than SMC make good batteries, more companies make good motors than Castle, etc. If people donít give things a shot, same as we did with SMC when SPC closed up shop, businessí donít have a chance.

Hmmm....I seem to be happy with them so far. Then again, I'm more into runtime than speed so maybe that makes a difference?
Lord knows, I've spent a bunch on just batteries already!

    Let's see:

    4x 2843
    4x 2869
    3x 2820
    2x 2878

So just under $700 just on batteries...

I totally get that. Someone posted saying their quality was no good. Was just responding to that. Just have never heard anyone having issues with their batteries. And oh how I do miss SPC. It truly is a shame that he went out of business. At any rate, I agree, there are other places to get good batteries. Like I said, was just curios as to why someone would post saying the quality of SMC batteries has gone way down. Just never heard that before from anyone. At any rate, have a great evening!!

@222 Sorry my previous post was short. I’ve bought and run many brands and sizes of lipos, in my experience SMC puff quicker than some cheaper lipos even when when meticulously balanced and storage charged. However they don’t puff as fast as some brands and I’ve bought much more expensive lipos that also puffed too soon. SMC are definitely better than GensAce. So that’s some of my lipo lihv experience. Couple of friends like the huge SMC lipos, but some of there’s are a bit puffy too.

Imagine how much fun you could have with good batteries, Iíd say you bought a traxxas charger, so if you stepped up your charger game, you could get there quicker and get there quicker.

I've no need to get there any quicker. If all the batteries are charged up I could go all day even without charging any while running others.

Yes, I got the Traxxas 2972 dual charger.

I have quite a few SMC batteries that are a few years old and are still pretty good. I have a set of 4500mah 3s that I bought last spring that ever since new have gradually declined. The IR has gone up alot pretty much from the time i got them. Another set i have that i bought around the same time is still golden. I also had a 4s SMC pack that just spontaneously puffed after only about 15-20 cycles. I let it cool down, when I put it on the charger I watched the cell puff and the internal resistance was rapidly climbing so I took it outside and retired it. I have also recieved new gens ace batteries that had cells below 3 volts. I've had gens ace, many, many venoms die prematurely. I swear it's luck of the draw anymore. I have tried Vant before, pretty decent too.

I figure the less drama the better...if I stick with all Traxxas stuff, There's only one source and not one company deferring issues on another. Plus, there's the whole proprietory connector stuff that I'd rather not deal with.

Guys, I’m not so sure about SMC’s claimed quality. I recently bought a set of 4500mah 3s lipos for my e-revo 2.0 and they aren’t charging or holding charge after maybe 15 cycles, I’m not sure what is wrong, because with so many people on here praising them, I’m feeling I may have done something wrong??!! I balanced them correctly, charged em at 3 amps every time, and stored them at a storage voltage. HELP?? Lol

They aren’t charging or holding a charge? Are they puffed or is the internal resistance (IR) number of each cell dramatically higher than when they were new? Batteries can also fair early if they’re dragged below 3.2v when discharging...they also get hot when this happens. Or they fail when pulling on them harder than they’re rated for, which would be hard to do given the ratings on these packs lately. But check the IR of each cell...less than 15 cycles and they should still be under 3 or 4 mOhms per cell.

I just purchased a pair of SMC 9400mah 4S packs for my Xmaxx so I’ll report back after I’ve used them 10-15 times.

I got a set of 9200mah SMC 4s in April, this is the 21st cycle on them. IR is still pretty good.

Little bit of puffing, but not a whole lot. Voltage checker says it is at 4 volts all cells combined?? Something weird is going on here. I never discharged them below about 3.4 or so.

I'm with USMC1984 on this one - I also only have Traxxas batteries.
If SMC were available in the UK I'd probably give them a try though, but for now I'm happy with the Traxxas packs I have.....

My issue with traxxas batteries is the low c rating. I haven't seen any over 35c.

I vote HRB. you can get them with Traxxas connectors. I have been using the 3s version that fits in a brushless slash for over 2 years and it never puffed up like Traxxas batteries ALWAYS do.

I'll probably get flamed here one way or another but I just ordered and received 2 Youme 6500mAh, 60c 4s batteries. $85 shipped for the pair. I actually bought them for the X-Maxx but just tried one in the Maxx and it fits perfect with the stock battery hold down. Real tight width wise but a nice fit. I haven't tried them yet as it is raining today. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer. Checked voltage when I received them and all cells were very close. Charging them right now.

Most all lipos are manufactured in China. Itís silly to think only one or two brands is worth buying. Iíve had floureon batteries, that I bashed plenty with. For my more power hungry applications, I run SMCís. Let us know how the new batteries. It wasnít that long ago on this forum that SPC was the most recommended battery, and SMC was second rate. All the sudden SPC goes out of business, and SMC is the most highly recommended battery.

Couldn't agree more. I have never bought the big dollar name brand batteries. I was buying Venom , etc. 10 years ago when no one knew about them. They have always preformed well for me and I still buy them. Some have gained a better reputation over the years as you have said. Some still are bad mouthed. It's whatever works for you.

I will relay how it goes tomorrow.

There are banned brand names that will be "*" out when mentioned. Edit your post and refrain from referencing them in the future.

Does anyone else have trouble with Traxxas brand LiPos? 90% of mine are Puffed to some extent. I plan on sending them back for warranty. I think without a receipt they credit you 1/2 the retail price Towards new Traxxas batteries. I have had a 1 year old Traxxas battery puff up after a few runs in a TRX4 with the LVD on.

I have never bought any Traxxas batteries but I have had quite a few of them. I buy and sell a lot of trucks. Some of the trucks will come with a Traxxas battery. Most of the time they are puffy. Now I don't know how well they were taken care of as they weren't mine but it is a little concerning how many are puffed. There are a lot better batteries out there that are a lot cheaper. Some of my off brand 3s 5000mAh lipos (that start with a T) that I paid $25 for have lasted 5 years or longer. Might be time to look at other options.

Ran the Youme 4s lipos today for about 10 minutes. Seemed to have good punch. I don't know how long they last yet as I had to stop. For $85 for two of them shipped, I am happy now. Here's a quick video running them in the street.

they all puffed up Except one. My LHS said they now have a new chemistry. I think he's right cuz that one never puffed up. But all the 2S and 3S did with the exception of one that was the new Chemistry

All LiPos may originate from the same place, but they are not the same quality. No-name places will sell the lowest quality batteries that have the highest internal resistance, and therefore, shortest life whereas companies that stand behind their batteries would reject these in favor of high quality batteries with low IR.

SMC batteries have been having problems puffing lately. On top of that they won't stand behind them.

Higher IR will prolong your battery life, according to SMC. Lower, you get more output. Iím guessing thereís a happy medium with the two.

The only way I got traxxas lipos not to puff is to storage them after every run and charge them right before each run

Hi, I was hoping someone could give me their opinion on this X-Maxx and these lipos haven't found a charger yet. My son is 11 and he is buying this for himself. This isn't the first rc car he's had but never had one this quick. We're trying to stay away from the $300 buck Traxxas 4S 6700mAh lipos and the EZ peak live ID quick charger. Any suggestions on the charger and lipos to buy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks X-maxx https://www.amazon.com/Traxxas-X-Max...d-games&sr=1-7 Liops Batteries https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PD2CNQM...01N7YIIDL?th=1 I did find this site but there the traxxas lipos https://www.rcsuperstore.com/traxxas...00mah-charger/

Cost effective 4s lipos for X-Maxx?

For batteries, look into SMC batteries. They are good and have some larger ones that will give more runtime versus the ones you have listed. And they are a lot less expensive. They also sell some good chargers on their site, and IMO, itís worth it to get a good charger if you want to keep your batteries for very long. Cheap chargers arenít as precise and they can tend to have a bad affect on batteries in the long run IMO. You do get what you pay for sometimes, and this is one of them. JMHO.

Iíd look into hitec for chargers. Look at the amp draw. More the merrier. And with the X-Maxx, I know itís expensive, but them overall experience will be so much better with high Discharge, high capacity batteries.

I found these two lipo's but I'm not sure if the 9400mah is too much for it. I can solder it together but I have no clue on what connecters or charger to buy. Thanks for the help I appreciate it. https://www.smc-racing.net/index.php...product_id=507 and the 7200mah https://www.smc-racing.net/index.php...product_id=558
