    shorted out battery?

My esc went up in smoke a couple of weeks ago. I sent my esc/motor combo in to traxxas and put a storage charge on my battery then waited for the combo to come back. Traxxas' customer service was awesome and I got it back today with a new esc. After I installed everything I did a balance charge on the battery. I plugged in the battery to the vehicle and began the process of recalibrating the transmitter as per the instructions I got from Traxxas. Right away got caught a whiff of ozone and noticed the esc wasn't lighting up. Is it possible the battery shorted out when the original esc failed? If there is a problem with the battery wouldn't it show up on the ez-peak app? I've got a bone stock 4x4 Slash Ultimate. A 3 cell 6400mah Traxxas battery and Ez-peak charger. When charging, I follow along on the app. Currently it reads: 12.6v and each cell is holding 4.2v. Currently I only have the one battery. Any help is appreciated!
