Nitro isn't going to pull a truck this large. If anything it would be a gas engine. I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. Electric is the future of RC.

Already being the future for more then 10 years ago... when brushless started nitro went on a downgrade spiral.

Yah...nitro had it's time...time to move on...just like the vhs tapes or k7 or even cd...

Nitro is really only still popular in 8th Scale Buggy/Truggy. The demand has went way down when Electric outperformed Nitro when brushless motors came along in RC.

Well I'd say as far as any new releases that the interest is on the wane.
But def isn't dead. Still plenty new parts and fuels, engines etc that one can buy.

Still my favorite. Love tinkering with them.

Definitely not as popular anymore. Can't begin to argue that.
    Have my own ideas why.

Consider 5th scalers. Still gas. Why? You'd have $10k in batteries to drive it. Not practical. 13 lbs isn't that bad, just wish this truck were 3s capatible via gear reduction. Maybe it will be. Many peeps would be plenty happy going 30 mph with a more affordable "fuel" source, even using existing packs. Cool thing IF it were a gasser is run time. I'd build a scale 100 gal fuel cell for the rear, drive forever!

Nitro is not dead, it's just that we're short on people who can handle it.

I thought nitro would be fun. And don't get me wrong it is. Just carrying fuel, glow igniter, glow wrench, glow plugs, tuning screwdriver, etc, just isn't that practical. I mean at a track I'm sure it's fine. But once you prep your nitro, run it, and clean it up after, just gets repetitive doing it over and over and makes you want to just run electric. Not saying nitro is bad or anything, it's totally cool. I just like the simplicity of electric.

I think the vehicle would be to heavy for Nitro. It would have to be a Gas Engine, like a Zenoah 32cc. I recently sold my Kraken Vekta.5, and the stock 32cc engine is just underpowered. I added a 9+ HP OBR 34cc Reed Case Stroker Engine and it made a huge difference. But it will never have the acceleration of an electric motor.

My Buddy has an Electric Converted 12S Losi 5ive-T. It has 22+ HP and that thing is just plane insane.

Seriously doubt there will be anything but an electric version of this. Nitro saw it's obituary being written the day LiPo's and Brushless first met. A gas version would be interesting but I doubt they could build it at a price point that people would buy. As is you're looking at $800 which is well beyond what the RC'er has to spend on a new car/truck.

$10,000 for batteries is overstated. Two sets of batteries for the 1/5 scale Losi 5ive 12s electric conversion are $700-$1000 total.

You know how many engines I could wear out with $1000 in fuel, just saying. I think it could be possible with nitro, a t mass weighs like eight pounds. They make some pretty big nitro engines that run on air planes. But I think electric will be cool too. I can remember when a 2000 Mah nihm pack was $100. But that was also when an esc for a brushed motor was like $200.

Medic aka RC Sparkz has a Electric Converted 16S Losi 5ive-T, he says it will do 100+ MPH geared right.

    Batteries for my buddies 12S 5ive-T are only $285 each from Gens Ace for a Single 12S, #B1034. You can run 4x 3S, 3x 4S, 2x 6S, or a Single 12S.
He runs the RCMadness BL5 V2 Kit. It will run 80+ MPH if you can handle it.
Conversion kit was around $300, Motor and ESC was around $350 I think. So $1000 or so for a 12S Conversion.
I have also seen 22S (I think) at some RC Show in So Cal. It was a Prototype thing, and the motors were in the wheel, and the guy said the vehicle can hit 250+ MPH. No Drivetrain at all.

When you say two sets, do you mean 2x 12S Lipos? I can buy a Single 12S LiPo from Gens Ace for $285. I do understand there are very expensive LiPos out there tho.

Agreed, I fired up 2 of my nitro's this weekend while the kids ran their electric. Even after sitting for almost a year, they fired right up and ran at least 4 tanks through both of them. I get the ease of electric, but if you forget to store your LiPo's properly they are pretty much ruined months later. I have to peak mine every 2 weeks or set them to LiPo storage. Just something I have to remind myself to do. I always run some sort of after run procedure on my nitro's which I why they have lasted for better than 7 years now. They are all fun though!

Race gas for what its worth. Nitro is drag race fuel, percentages just like rc fuel. More nitro, more $$$.
