    Traxxas T-Maxx, E-Maxx, Revo 17mm Hex Conversions

    Hey guys

I been posting in other threads about modifying 17mm traxxas hexes to work on the UDR.

I got a concept/prototype fabbed up, ready to test today.

charging one of my batteries, and gonna give it a test run.

I am using Losi Dish Rims, Middle Offset. Proline-Badlands mx38s

I cant turn the front steering wheel all the way, but, once i find the wide (inside) offset tires that wont be a problem anymore.

    So to start

i took a 17mm aluminum hexes for a t-maxx or old revo. they had a 6mm driveshaft hole.

I drilled out the inside of the hexes, so that they would slide all way over the axle on the UDR. Once i had that done, i took a screw drive and tapped it thru the hex and hole in the drive shaft, to line the holes up, removed the screwdriver, and inserted the traxxas grub screw, and tightened them down. Using plastic body washers on the outside of the metal hex and between the carrier. removes the slop/play. need 2 bodywashers on the front.

they spin freely, but need to do a quick drive test to see if it works.

I am looking at a set of 8th scale paddle tires, they look really strong, and are a lot lighter than the traxxas UDR paddles. The smaller paddles would fit my escalade body a lot better as well. (xo-1's fit inside the wheel well, but the udr's do not.)

also only a little trimming would be needed to make these tires fit on the stock body, but i feel they are a touch too wide. next im thinking of stretching some superswampers or something over some wide offset thing wheels.

But with this setup i can now swap between any 17mm hex tires and wheels, that will clear the hub/ trailing arm, and upper a-arm on the front.

Works good, even with a little rubbing it drove good.

i could put on the on-road tires and test it now.

    hello in your opinion,
through your modification would it be possible to fit the tires of the revo 2.0 or some other rubber wider and higher than the original UDR?
Obviously I mean using an off set to move the tires out and be able to turn the steering wheel without touching the body

no, the stock tires bearly fit inside the wheel wells.

would need tomodify the body like you would a monster slash.

heres running video of the 8th scale onroad, and the (e-revo sized badlands)

trimmed the body, and ran her today with the badlands mx38's. did pretty good actually.

had to lower the shocks ALOT she did scrape a little but acceptable. jumped good, powerslides good. pretty impressed. finished off the rest of the run at the track with the stock udr wheels.

Looking at a lot of different wheel combos for this setup. Anything that is not a wide offset, will not fit. A deep wheel like a revo tire will bind in the trailing arm. there is only 2 or 3mm of clearance between the badlands and the trailing arm. it almost touches.

here is the video we took last weekend of the MDR Monster Desert Racer. Started off with traxxas 25c 4s lipos. The packs would kick LVD right away, so i switched to a generic 60c 5000mah lipo.

Check this out. It sits inside of the wheel to center it and then locks onto the wheel nut because its knurled.

Nice. its kind of like a Yoshi or Monster RC adapter for 5th scale wheels for the x-maxx.

    pretty awesome.

The Proline badlands tires on Losi 8t wheels
Really gave the UDR great traction -
a bit higher center of gravity - little more tippy
