    MIP price jump?

Itís been awhile. I was looking into the MIP CV axles and noticed an average of 50% price increase. Just curious about this and wondering when and why it happened if anybody knows. Thanks

They know how popular and good they are. Parts as these, do have a tendency to go up in price. Simple as that...

How long ago do you remember them being half of what they are now?

I bought my X-Duties about 4 years ago and the prices aren't that different.

Like maybe a year. I saw them for $50-$60 each and $100 for both. Now most places on fleabay are asking at least $70

if anyone was wondering the old pricing was $56 for the rear and $50 for the front. I heard at my LHS that they tweaked their design to be more universal so they are slightly different than the old model

The price did change. The X-Duties are $72 everywhere now and even my LHS has confirmed that there is a new price for the updated driveshafts

Inflation my friends, mip has always been on the higher end, add inflation and a reputation of indistructable and you get a price that while high, is worth it. Any one who rents can tell you, it increases yearly (ish)

Possibly for a wide trac or special purpose?

That rear is $50 and the same part number it has always been.... just hte oem sells it for $72, still available other places for $50 doesn't look to be anyhting new about it. the keyed versions have been the only version around for quite some time now

    Hereís the old rear:

    The new rear:

I bought mine before the new sets and I paid just about that much. I might have gotten scammed.

What used to be on MIP's website regarding the new X-Duty:

The 10132 and 10130 fit exactly the same, but the 18150 and 18140 will include a running change bone that we made that will fit in multiple cars now instead of have a separate number for each car kit. The new kits will also include a smaller size drive hub for less rotational weight.

I just bought a set of GPM cvd's for one of my p4de's, and those have held up to what kevin talbot puts though his rustler! 60 bucks for front/rear.

I watch him now and then, he puts his rigs thru some serious hurt.
I just watched him do a video praising Traxxas CVD's over Mip's; not sure I'd agree with him but it does say a lot about the strength of the Traxxas axles.

It would seem we all put our rigs thru different levels of torture, I used to thing I was hard on mine until hearing some of the story's on these forums.

Considering that I am still using the original set of MIP X-Duty axles from 2011, I would say that $50.00 - $70.00 a set is not bad. I have and continue to get my money's worth!

    MIP price jump?

Everybody has their own thing. For me MIPs work the best. I donít launch my truck 50 feet high like Kevin does, but I do throw it 8 or 9 feet up at 50mph.
My biggest enemy is the cart wheel. I broke many many many stock bellcranks and half axles due to cart wheels off of biggish jumps.

That’s funny though. I have been wondering how the US/China trade war is/will affect RC. I’ve done some research, but it’s been all inconclusive and open ended with no real answer. Is there anybody on the Traxxas forums who works at the Pentagon who is legally allowed to put their $0.02/ important intel in here to answer this?

Steel price is higher because of the tariffs no matter where it's made. I also understand that retooling will increase cost as these tools are also subject to the tariffs and of course labor.

Pretty comical how buying rear driveshafts for a caprice owned by a friend costed $100 for both, and these rc driveshafts are only $28 cheaper!

Post #13 clearly shows the sets at $72 at MIPonline....about the same price they were 3 years ago when I bought mine(and Obama was in office).Looks like the difference is in the secondary suppliers(like ebay sellers) 3 years ago I got a set of 4 delivered for under $100....not seeing those prices now. I'll guess it has something to do with MIP cracking down on their distribution network(you know, like Traxxas did). But hey, gotta be Trump's fault....right?

Horizon raised prices on Spektrum products Oct. 1 due to tariffs, that’s the only official announcement I’ve seen.

I got this from Tower Hobbies in an email. But no worries. You won't find Traxxas products at this site.

On July 7, 2018 the Office of United States Trade Representatives began imposing additional tariff charges, ranging from 10-25%, on a comprehensive list of products being imported from China. Certain products have been affected by this since that date, and we have been absorbing the impact of these increased tariffs in an effort to mitigate impact our valued customers.

On October 1, 2018 select products including transmitters, servos, motors, receivers, and other items will have their prices adjusted. With our continued commitment to our customers, we will be taking minimal pricing action on affected items and will absorb tariff costs when possible. Price changes will vary by product to ensure only the necessary price adjustment with respect to the varying tariff impact on each item. We are notifying you prior to these changes and providing a storefront of products that will increase in price due to the tariff.

Tower Hobbies is committed to providing consistent products, service, and support. To achieve this, it is necessary that we comply with regulatory action such as this and adjust only as necessary to ensure minimal disruption and impact to our customers. We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we navigate these unanticipated and ever-evolving trade negotiations.

I don't have a 2WD Slash, but according to RPM's website regarding their rear A-Arms

    Tech Notes:
Stock rear axle carriers have an upper and lower hinge pin hole. RPM Slash 2wd Rear A-arms only allow the use of the original, lower hole location to be used. The upper axle carrier hole (which would lower the ride height in the back too much) cannot be used. To lower the rear end of the truck, RPM recommends using the outer shock mount hole positions in the A-arm.

    Good luck!

^Those parts are 2 generations old.
Those have the drive pin in the axle.
After those came the keyed axles.

The press release mentions other brands that are not Traxxas. Fair enough.

The industry has certainly been changing quite a bit the last couple of years. Traxxas seems interested in a LHS supported model which is great if you have a LHS (fortunately I do). There's always been this weird dynamic between online shops and LHS. I actually applaud folks like Horizon and Traxxas who have a MAP and try to enforce it and who also try to get people to buy locally. Even though it is more costly for me.

If I didn't have a LHS though, I would be pretty sad. I just simply wouldn't buy brands that I couldn't get online, I mean what else can you do?
