yes it's normal
with 18t pinion- best to set mesh without the pins

I'd recommend to anyone, remove those pins and set manually.
In all honesty they are a great idea. Just way too much difference in company's gears. Not all the same size.

Who needs brakes!!!!
I have tried to install the high speed config 18/46 using the pins, but like many people reported here in different threads the mesh is WAY to big ! I assume the motor stays in place with just the four motor mount screws tight enough? I’m gonna try that now.
How do you set the mesh without the pins,,I don’t see any way to manually adjust it ,,unless I’m missing something,.i like the idea of setting my own mesh...thanks
a piece of paper between the pinion and
spur gears then tighten motor bolts
fabricator
how far do you tighten down on the paper?
No need to use a c-clamp to push the motor over to the spur. Just firmly push them together and when you pull the paper out it will look like: VVVVVVVV. You should be able to feed a strip of paper through the gears. If it rips, it is too tight. Then with the paper out study the lash and you won't need to use paper again.
