Question Are these dust boot needed?

Every time I drive, these covers pop out from under the retainers. The top one is easy to get back in, but the lower is very hard. Are these needed? I don't understand why they always pop off...every single time. Short of driving better, what are my options?

They keep the bearings from getting to much dirt in them. I've been known to put a drop of CA glue to hold them in place, or fix a tear for that matter. If you don't run them just be sure to dust out the bearings after your run

After a run, I generally use a paint brush to get any heavy debris off, then I use my air compressor and a air gun to blow out the rest of the dust/debris from everywhere. Hopefully that'll be sufficient. Maybe I'll try some glue and see if they hold.

Is there a brand of CA glue you've found to prefer?

They keep dirt out of the pivot ball. Don't really need it if you aren't submerging or drive on wet.

They are there to keep the dirt out of the pivot ball system. If they do not get pulled out of the retainer clips they will eventually dry rot. Since they do not need to cover the entire shaft, I've pushed the small end up as close to the ball as possible to reduce the chance of getting pulled out around the clips.

I just noticed I messed up and said bearings! As others stated it's the pillow balls, not bearings.
