Rocks/sand/pebbles getting stuck in spur gear

    Hi all,
My son got a new prerunner for his 6th birthday. Truck runs great and my son loves it! super fast for what it is and very well made.

Only issue we've had so far is that when running on hard pack gravel the truck always seems to get tiny rocks/sand/pebbles stuck in the spur gear. When this happens it makes a grinding noise as the pinion is making contact with these little bits of rock stuck in b/w the teeth of the spur gear. This can also slow the truck down and makes the motor work harder.

So when this happens i just take the cover off the spur gear and use a knife to remove the little bits of rock (some of which can get embedded in spur gear) that are stuck in b/w the teeth.

Anyone ever have a similar issue? Any remedy?
