So some have asked for pics

Pinions are 14 18 20 22. Spurs are 50 52 54. I can see wear on slipper, Iíve been running it loosened 1/4 turn. Temperature here in Louisiana this weekend will be in the 50ís which is full on winter lol. So I geared it 22/50 and will strap on the gps for a speed run to see what it will do

So the first time I ran this system, I did it with the body off so I could monitor temps. This was mistake.

Just make sure they are not tight. You want a little extra wire so when the chassis flexes it won't pull them.

Quick question, how is your drive train holding out with new power plant?Do you do a lot of off road or more on road?

    Today I ran geared 22/50 and got to 58.4mph. I ordered 2 smc 4s 7400mah 90c battery’s and a 24t pinion. I would like it to do 70.

Ive been following this thread for a bit and compiled a shopping cart. It seems as if you have honed yours in pretty good. Whats throwing me off now is I'm at the same price as an E-Revo2.0 copying your set up. On one hand is a stock Revo and the other a modded Rusty 4X4 ...... decisions, decisions.

This has been a very informative , thanks for all the testing & commenting

Youíll end up needing or wanting to upgrade the revo as well, just some food for thought, before you give up on an upgraded rusty 4x4. I know the new revo has some upgraded parts, but things like the servo, push rods abs steering links, youíll want to upgrade. Think about this stuff before you pull the trigger. IMO, I would rather have an upgraded rusty 4x4 over the revo being stock. But that is just me.

+1 on this. Itís not like youíll be able to drive the e revo stock for too long... things that wrong in my first 10 runs
Tires ripped off at the bead (not unglued, ripped. Toast.)
Vxl 6s died (only earlier models had issues)
Broke a few pushrods and toe links
Many having shock issues but Iíve been lucky
Edit: how could I forget. 7 2075 servos died
    Etc

Ok so I got my new batteries in and they fit but I have to come up with a way to hold them in place

I’m thinking of using a dremel to cut slots so I can use a strap.

So today I ran 24/50 on 4s. Wow, this this is not a monster truck but it is definitely a monster. At 60mph the tires were about 8” tall I could get no where near full throttle it just wanted to flip over, and I was slowly easing into the throttle. Tires started to come unglued. Visually it looked like I was driving on wagon wheels lol. So since I already have some grp tires I ordered some 17mm hubs. Since I already have the grp for speed runs I need recommendations on an all terrain tire for my 17mm hubs. Should I look into 1/8 scale buggy/truggy tires. Thanks in advance

For 17mm I have a few preferences, short course and 1/8 buggy. Beings it's a rusty both will look and perform decent, that's my opinion from owning a 2wd rusty. I'll attach some pictures for reference. My first recommendation is duratrax lockups, try the 1/8 buggy flavor first. A great performing tire, asthecticaly pleasing and will do ok with wear. One tire that I've had for almost two years is losi desert claws, in the short course flavor mounted on de racing Trinidad wheels (17mm hex sc wheels). While not fantastic on any surface they wear incredibly well and can add a level of excitement to driving because of the slight slip the have to them. Another plus, they hardly balloon! Made of a harder rubber, they are amazingly stout and strong. You'll get the trenchers lobby, badlands (not an all terrain tire!) and all sorts of others. This is my opinion from my personal experience.
Its alright son I'll fix it when you break it

These are the 1/8 buggy tires I have on hand. Grp for speed runs, Losi trl for hard packed clay which does me no good where I live, and some knock offs that wonít last 2 min lol!

I'm currently geared 22/50! With a GPS device strapped to the battery tray I have recorded 74mph on video. It has gone faster but I have no proof. The tires that I run are Duratrax Bandito's. They are mounted on a set 9f Raceline aluminum rims.

I really like the lockup’s for off road, but on 4s they balloon on road, I was afraid I would tear them. The grp’s do great on the street I can keep this truck on all fours. I ordered mod 1 gears for the street 25/32. Looking forward to see what it will do

Great thread! Definitely bookmarking this one.

Since we are slightly off topic now, can I ask a question? How difficult was it to install your new motor and esc? I'm a newbie and just recently swapped motors and esc's between two of my traxxas cars. Is this something that someone with limited experience could do? I've got a Rustler 4x4 and need to give it a bit more horsepower. The castle rig was what I was considering, but am just nervous about getting over my head.

    Thanks in advance

it’s really easy. Actually when I put my Sidewinder 8th into my slash 4x4 I was able to use the existing esc and receiver mounting holes to put in the sidewinder, just had to move the receiver to the top of the front chassis (which also bolts right in to the 2 holes) and the motor had enough clearance to fit right in.

And the Sidewinder is a lot bigger than the Mamba x

I have a question about shocks, these are on my 2wd rustler. I think they might be big bores, is that right? Should I swap shocks?

Pulled a front off of each, the one from the 2wd is shorter and smaller in diameter. I guess Iíll just put the aluminum caps on the original ones
