    ZacMaster’s Build Thread

    Hello, everyone. New guy here. Thanks for all the awesome ideas on how to make my build better.

    Bought a 1/16 E-Revo last weekend, and I’m already modding. What a blast.

    First couple pictures are me figuring out what kind of shoes to put on.



    For some reason I like these Summit tires. I think I’ll buy some.

    Since most of our bashing is going to be inside (young kids) and since I ordered the black Geode beadlock wheels, Canyon AT, foam inserts, I decided to gear it way down. I looked in the manual and bought the gear combo that would be highest.

    So, here’s my HR pinion (18T) and spur gear (55T) purchases.



    I ordered a 53T too, but won’t use it.



    Pulling apart the motor...



    Old 50T spur...



    New 55T HR spur.



    Love the change, tons of torque now.

    Wheels next...

    I won’t admit how many hours of late night YouTubing it took me to find that.

    Thanks for the heads up, looks like a good way to make this an indoor basher.

    Wheels and tires showed up. These are the black Geode beadlock wheels, Canyon AT tires, with foam inserts. Straight from the summit area of the traxxas web store.



    Here’s a shot of the stock tires with the new summit tires for comparison.

    And finally with all four complete.



    Drives great, but these are a TINY bit bigger than perfect (aesthetically), but far closer to my views of an appropriate wheel size compared to the stock tires.

    It’s a good way to slow it down while still using close to stock spur and pinion combinations. I did this to my mini-Summit and found it worthwhile until I sold it.

    Tonight, I did a few things. First, plastidipped a clear body purchased from LHS.

    No before pictures, but here are some during pictures and after pictures.



    You can see my masking. I did the front, rear, and two side windows. Masked matching shapes on the inside, too. (Plastidipped the inside for protection.)

    I tried the transmission flip tonight, then immediately undid it. Too much slop in neutral. (Would roll forward and back an inch or so before engaging the gears.) Maybe I put something together wrong, but when I undid it, it was all right again.

    Anyway, here are the pictures.

    Before swap...



    Then after swap...



    Putting everything back together...



    I had to remove the center cover from the bottom to line up the driveshafts with the output shaft of the transmission.



    Then, I used the lighter trick to permanently bend the stock antenna tube forward, then right across the front of the front body mount supports.



    Not my best work, but under the body, fits great.

    I don’t think you did anything wrong with the flip. If I recall correctly, there was quite a bit of slack? free play? in the driveline.

    I’m still happy having undid the transmission flip.

    Today at the LHS, I took advantage of the $100 upgrade to brushless...

    Chassis without motor...



    Smaller 380 motor mount...



    Smaller 380 gear cover.



    Smaller motor plate...



    And a Savox 250mg...



    Side by side...



    Halfway installed...



    From the top...



    Finally, the new motor and esc installed...

    Also, I bought a black antenna tube and redid my lighter trick permanent bending. Much better.



    Another angle. Looks nice and clean now.



    Still want a new, slightly bigger wing.

    The parallel battery connector showed up yesterday.

    Plenty of runtime now for me and the kid to drive around the basement...

    My Traxxas toe links showed up! (But not the pushrods yet.)



    Here they are next to one of the stock links.



    One of the rear links changed for comparison.



    And both rears changed.



    After changing the fronts.



    Finally, a tackle box as a parts storage container.

    Last night, I replaced the rocker bushings with rocker bearings.



    After replacing one:



    And both done:



    I can absolutely tell a difference in how smooth the rockers operate.

    Next, steel hallow balls...

    Also, I managed to replace the bushings on the Servo saver with 5114 Ball bearings, (5x8x2.5mm).

    My Losi Mini 8ight Wing arrived tonight. I did a ton of research and picked it as a close replica of the stock wing, but a little more appropriately sized for the look.



    The holes do not exactly line up, but they were close enough to get it bolted in.

    ZacMaster’s Build Thread

    I wanted some on-road/indoor tires, so I bought some 2.8 anacondas today, but apparently there are two different kinds (one for the nitros and one for the electrics). Different offsets.

    It appears the smaller offsets won’t work with the steering geometry, but I threw the bigger offset ones on the rear for comparison.



    Whoa. Bigger than my summit canyon ATs.



    They look cool, but I think they are too big.



    So I may downgrade to the 2.2 anacondas, or maybe try the dirt hawgs like this guy:

    Also, my summit front and rear bumpers showed up.

    Might be fun to have some lights, so this was the easiest way to body-mount them.

    Lastly, my 12T HR pinion showed up:





    Now I’m running 12T, 55T.

    Nicely geared for 99% basement bashing with my toddler and his 1/28 ECX buggy.
