The motor gets to about 190’, I have a 2wd Rustler that needs a new esc so I’m looking to get a new esc motor combo for the 4x4. Been looking at hobbywing, looking for suggestions.
Hobbywing makes good escs. For motor, you could go with Castle, or even Gear Shop. I like my Gear Shop motor. Tons of torque and speed. If you want a specific esc from Hobbywing, the EzRun 60a esc works pretty well.
After testing the 4x4 at my lhs I think this truck is a perfect candidate for the castle 2400kv! Paired with a mamba x, or your esc of choice, the motor would really wake up the truck. Seriously, this truck needs, no deserves, more motor.

Its alright son I'll fix it when you break it
I’m looking at the hw ezrun max10 sct, what do you think?
Seriously thinking about the mamba x 2400kv combo, never ran castle before.
Personally I ripped the hobbywing stuff out of my trucks. Had their esc in two of them, not anymore. You won't regret castle.

Did you have problems with them, or just wanted more esc?Personally I ripped the hobbywing stuff out of my trucks.

Is this the one
I had problems with the lvc on one and the fans on both. I couldn't keep a fan actually working on either of them. I had always gone with castle Esc's prior, decided to switch it up. They were the ezrun max8 if it makes any difference. Tmbold, that would be the one! That motor is longer than the stock one, and while it looked as though it would fit, a quick double check might be in order.

Thecan is 69.5mm/2.736 in. It’s close

One more question, do I want the 3.17mm shaft or the 5 mm? I’m going to order
Ok, what range of pinions should I buy

I'd start around 18, adjust as temps dictate

I also ordered a 14 18 20 23 pinion, thanks for your advice
You'll want to gear up. Bigger pinion, or smaller spur.what kind of gear change would a person do with the lower kv
When I had that system in my slash 4x4 (and my 2wd slash) I used 3s for normal use. Once geared up, 3s is plenty. Every once in awhile I would throw 4s in them, just to break something or those inevitable "hold me back" moments. Instead of buying a dedicated 4s pack (which likely won't fit) think about a series adapter and two 2s batteries.

Ok thanks, I should slow down. It’s hard to do.
Whoops, sorry about that ksb. I guess I should have said the inevitable "watch this" moments. Tmbold, you and me both brother! It's a deep rabbit hole and easy to get lost in it, ha!

Ready for the weekend, I can’t wait to run this

That is my very favorite motor system! Some call it the sensored El Sob special motor system. I know that will love it in your Rustler♡ I have had the sensored version in one of my trucks since it was first released. It still runs as beautiful today as the first day it was installed. 3s is good power and speed. 4s is a whole lot more fun! 6s ( even though the motor isn't rated for it but it doesn't over rev it ) is absolutely crazy! Looking forward to seeing your truck in action![]()

I hope you like your new system. I'm curious to hear how you like the Mamba X with the 2400kv 1415 motor. I might have gone with a Sidewinder 8th system instead. The Sidewinder 8th combo is cheaper, gives you a bigger motor (1515B 2200kv), and an ESC that can handle just as much if not more power (Sidewinder 8th). The only thing the Sidewinder 8th system doesn't do is Sensored mode.
The "problem" with the Mamba X ESC is the same "problem" that the Mamba Max Pro had. It was designed with significant size and weight constraints in mind (at the expense of extra heat), due to all of the people using them in lightweight racing buggies and similar. If you're just bashing, then you don't really need an ESC that was designed with such a focus on being small and lightweight, and overkill with a heavier 8th scale ESC is usually a good thing. My Mamba Max Pro had similar specs to the Mamba X and I was hitting thermal shutdown with that more often than I would have liked while paired with my older unsensored 2400k 1415, before I broke the shaft (3.17mm) on that motor. That was in a heavier Slash 4x4, and I hope your results are better.
I wasn’t sure how to mount the esc, so I made a lexan plate to adhese it to.

Nice! Do you have a picture with everything installed? Curious to see how tight it is.

It took me a while but I wanted the wires to be as clean as possible. Plenty of room,I will be running this tomorrow

Just remember to take temps often on the first run! While that motor is a bad mamma jamma, I don't think it's ever been run in a 4x4 rusty. While the gearing I gave worked fine in a 4x4 slash, and should be fine in your rusty, at this point it's all speculation. I'm excited to see what it can do! Make sure to report back, possibly a running video?

I thinking about getting the hobbywing Ezrun 120 esc and 3660 3200kv motor. Anyone have experience with this system?
My esc hit thermal the other day when I was running the 17 tooth pinion. Just doing speed runs on the road. That was with the traxxas fan on the esc and a fan on the motor

Just ran the 18 tooth pinion, lots of power. Motor got to 105 esc 90. Gonna move up to the 20
