Are there other alternatives under 30?

don't cheap out on a radio
I had several flyskys, threw them all out after having problems with my gt3c
now I run a simple Traxxas tqi with bluetooth, until I feel the need to upgrade to a good radio....
I am never one to put in expensive parts on any of my hobbies. That being said, if I can get quality parts for a lesser price I'm all for it!

+1 on flysky. I’ve used them for about 2 years and like them much better than the stock Traxxas radios

The Tactic TTX300 comes with a receiver and is remarkably good. Very light, but solid construction. No antenna wires on receivers. They’re $57 at Amain.
I won’t touch FlySky as they’re known to cause glitching in some other radios in crowded, race type environment.
If you’re only going to control 1 RC car, I agree that the Tactic TTX300 is the one to get. Should be able to get one on eBay for $30-40. Flysky FSGT5 is pretty nice, everything less than that is pretty junky IMO.

I am not sure where you heard this but this is not old mhz band tech. With 2.4Ghz bands and the encoding used it just isn't possible for it to cause "glitching" in other 2.4 Ghz radios. And anyone claiming so doesn't understand the technology in the first place. These radios can only "cross talk" with unbonded channel devices which all RC controllers use bonded channeling.
Got a TTX300 for 35 on eBay. Haven’t run with it yet but the adjustability and wireless aspect of it is very nice.
