I'm currently running my Rustler at 32/76 (2.33) and I'm running around 140 deg so I'd like to gear it more but also switch to 32p gears. I was thinking 22/50 (2.27) I've heard some people say 48p and 32p gearing ratios are not comparable but haven't been able to find a calculator link that still works. I'm basically wondering if I for example ran 23/54 (32p) (2.3) would it be basically the same as running 32/76 (48p) (2.3).
The overall gear ratio (aka Final Drive ratio) = Spur Tooth Count / Pinion Tooth Count x 2.72
Your ratios per the formula...
54/23 x 2.72 =6.39 [i.e. the motor turns 6.39 times for every single turn of the drive wheel]
76/32 x 2.72 = 6.46
...so yes, those ratios are basically the same.
Pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the RC car
[QUOTE=Gcm1978;6496813]Is this on the stock VXL motor?
I ran 48p 31/73 gearing on it for awhile, and remember it being fairly warm. I have a Castle 3800kv in mine now with 36/73 gearing and no temp issues
Yes its the stock VXL motor. I tried a castle SCT combo (3800kV) in my Rustler geared 32/76 same as the VXL and within about 4 minutes the esc went into thermal shutdown and the motor was a bit hotter then the VXL probably because it wasn't getting enough juice from the esc. So I've just stuck with the VXL combo for now.
