Slash 4x4 vxl ESC light blinking red after 30 min use.

    Hello,

I drove slash 4x4 vxl for some 30 minutes. Pretty hard.
Checked ESC and was very hot (cant hold finger for more than 1s).
Light on the ESC was blinking red. Car was still functioning normal. But cannot power off using ESC switch.
Pulled the power and tried again, everything back to normal.
What does the blinking red means?

    Thanks.

Check the charger/esec manual but I would assume LVC. I never run any of my batteries 30 minutes. My 7600mah bat went flat after that much time (twice). I try and make sure to stop running mine long before they go flat. I try and keep them under 15 or 20 minutes, 7 - 10 minutes of vid footage for me usually. Bat's are way too expensive but it is better to buy extra and charge sooner than they need vs running them flat and kill them.

Lithium batteries don't care how many times you charge them, it's all about the total MAH charged. They don't have a 'memory' and don't care how far they were discharged before being recharged. Buy lots of batteries and change/charge them early.

p.s. google search first page result = https://forums.traxxas.com/showthrea...red-light-only

I did run them with a battery volt meter connected. And stopped running when total voltage reached 7.55v and after some rest it would come exact 7.6v (3.8v per cell)
This is some thing i have tested several times. And not my first lipo.
And 30 min was not continous run as in a race.
It was more of 30 min play time.

30 min of 'play time' is still too much time imo, i count real time as in actual minutes. since this is not your first battery and u know more than me. good luck. unsubbing.

Thirty minutes of play time is not too much - if you are talking about continuous use of the vehicle's ESC and motor. With temps in check you could run all day no issues. But a little cooling period between packs doesn't hurt either.

To the original question: per page 19 of the manual online:

Slow Blinking Red (with Low-Voltage Detection on): The VXL-3s has
entered Low-Voltage Protection. When the battery voltage begins
to reach the minimum recommended discharge voltage threshold
for LiPo battery packs, the VXL-3s will limit the power output to
50% throttle. When the battery voltage attempts to fall below the
minimum threshold, the VXL-3s will shut down all motor output.
The LED on the speed control will slowly blink red, indicating a
low-voltage shutdown. The VXL-3s will stay in this mode until a fully
    charged battery is connected.
Fast Blinking Red: Thermal Shutdown Protection Stage 1. If the
motor has lower than normal power and the VXL-3s is hot, the VXL-3s
has entered Stage 1 Thermal Shutdown Protection to guard against
overheating caused by excessive current flow. If the motor has no
power and the VXL-3s is very hot, the VXL-3s has entered Stage 2
Thermal Shutdown Protection and has automatically shut down.
Let the VXL-3s cool. Make sure your model is properly geared for the
    conditions (see page 26).
Very Fast Blinking Red: Thermal Shutdown Protection and Low
Voltage Protection (see above) have occurred at the same time.

Thank you. It was Fast Blinking Red stage 1 then.

Thirty minutes is nowhere near too much time! When I was in California I used to run my trucks for an hour straight five days a week without any problems with getting hot

check the ESC manual, either low volt or over temp - ive been over temp in 5 minutes running on grass, time means nothing - type of terrain your running in means everything, grass will heat up your ESC in no time

How fast was the blinking red light?.

I would assume its LVD/lipo cut off (low voltage detection) which means your Lipo needs to be charged to be able run again. If your driving your car fast for 30mins and suddenly goes slow means the lipo has reached it low voltage. (NOTE you will not have throttle u will only be able to steer) I would not recommend unplugging the battery and using again, doing that can cause your lipo to puff.

Also if your throttle happy I would recommend (if running 3s lipo) having fans on your esc and motor. If you dont have a fan, check often to see if how hot your motor Is. Overheating your motor can cause your motor to be melted or ceased.

refer to the manual Page 18 .
