Castle creations 3800kv. Upgrade the esc?

I recently installed the cc mamba max pro sct with the 3800kv motor. I found with the same gearing as my velineon it heats up. I heard the esc struggles with the amp draw. Should i get a bigger esc. 100amp?

I would recommend a hobbywing max 10 120a esc. You can find them pretty cheap on ebay.

This esc definitely wouldn't over heat on 2s. It can take up to 4s although I wouldn't recommend putting 4s through that 3800 castle motor lol. I've seen it take 4s before but it can't be good for it.

Are those tekno m6 shafts? Running those with RPM a arms is not a good idea. Tekno themselves say not to but I tried it anyway and I was snapping drive cups left and right.

I never have had a problem when i just rip around bashing a bit. The only problem i have is that the dogbone can pop out of the cup because i have 103mm gmade shocks on that give me more suspension travel

What other options are there with the drive shafts.

I have the rear a-arms reversed with the shocks on the rear side which seems to launch the truck at a better angle of jumps

    Might wanna read this

According to these results you'd need a pretty big ESC to satisfy that much amp draw. I personally have that ESC but haven't run it in years and I don't remember having heat issues. Do you know what your actual temps are? Lots of people run that motor. I looked but couldn't find the actual amp rating for that ESC.

Yeah i didnt take a temp. But she was pretty hot to touch. I have only done 2 runs. I thought it was my gearing. But what about battery supply. I was running a 30c 4200mah traxxas. Both motor and esc were hot. But my gearing was the same as the velineon i put in it for years.

Should i consider a different setup to race at the track to be competitive

I don't think you should do anything until you know what your actual temps are. 125ish is pretty uncomfortable to touch, 145ish down right hurts and 170ish will make you say ouch instantly. You really do need to know what your tempetures actually are. What gearing are you running?

I have run the Mamba Max Pro and ET3s for many years in 3 to 6s. I have never had a problem with them overheating.
