The 1600kv motor is what came with the original 6s Xmaxx. The 1200kv is what comes with the new 8s Xmaxx. If you ran the original 6s Xmaxx 1600kv motor in your 8s Xmaxx, you'd have to only run 6s with it. If you tried to run 8s with your newly installed 1600kv motor, you'd just burn up it up.

(IMO) your best setup for the Xmaxx is running a 1400-ish kv motor, an 8s ESC, gearing up to 26 or 29 pinion/54 spur, and running 6s. That's what I do, and my top end is in the mid 50's, and I have plenty of climbing power.

Yes, I agree. You can run the original 6s 1600 motor on 8s, but for longevity I'd run it on 6s. I also agree that the 1600kv motor has more speed than the 1200kv or a 1400kv if all three are using 6s and the same gearing.

However, I do have to respectfully disagree that the 1600kv has more torque than 1200kv and 1400kv motors. Both the Traxxas 1200kv and leopard 1400kv motors have more torque than a Traxxas 1600kv motor. The general rule is: the higher the KV the faster, and the lower the KV the more torque.

A 1200kv has more torque at 1200 rpms than a 1600kv does at 1600 rpms. That's why you can go to a taller gear set with a 1200kv motor than you can a 1600kv motor driving the same load. Having a taller gear set with a torquer 1200kv motor gives you more torque at 1200 rpms, and the taller gear set compensates for the 1200kv motor having less rpms than the 1600kv motor.

Because of this, a geared up 1200kv motor can handle heavier loads, run cooler, and can have the same top end as a 1600kv motor. That's why Traxxas had problems with the first Xmaxx and it's 1600kv motor and 6s ESC. Guys were gearing up the original 6s ESC and 1600kv motor, and out of the box the 6s ESC and the 1600kv motor was already at it's gearing and load limits. It's important to agree with the numbers (which support what I'm explaining), but you have to also remember electrical magnetic principles.

I've "upgraded" to the 1600 v1 x-maxx motor. run only on 8s.

Its a lot more power and torque. Only downside I have, is overheating, but I am hammering the crap out of it.

Like Crazyxmaxx said, the smile is big. We have been running every weekend for a long time now. We bash them.

actually i ran 8s on a 6s motor and the first thing to break which made me buy a ew motor was the stock shaft broke the motor ran fine on 8s i just wasnt ready for the torque

I said above that the original 6s 1600kv motor will run on 8s. It will just run hotter than a geared up 1200kv/1400kv motor which will decrease its' overall longevity, but it will still run on 8s. Something to consider: if you have a good match between your motor, ESC, and gearing your temps should fall between 120°-140°. Your batteries a 120° and under.
