Looking to replace the . . . 2680kv motor that is in my slash 4x4 for something a bit more powerful.
Thinking about putting in an Arrma 2400kv motor from their 4s line, a 1/8 ebuggy (4068) motor, or a leopard/hobbystar 3670 motor. Going to only be running 3s and don't want to overstress my hobbywing SC8. Currently looking in the 2400-3000 kv range.
Any info from people running this esc will be helpful

I have that esc paired with 1/8 motors in two cars(2650kv, 2100kv). No problems on 3s. One esc is sc8 and another one is Team Orion 130A but I think it’s just rebranded HWsc8 and i am running it on 3 and 4S with 2100kv motor.
Both cars are heavier than Slash4x4

I have one hobbywing max8/2600kv motor and one mamba monster x/2650kv motor setup in two of mine and run 3s as well. I may try 4s with the castle one this weekend

I’m running the Arrma 2400 in my slash, paired to a mamba X. So long as your SC8 has 4mm bullet connectors, the motor will hook right up. The motor itself Runs great and on 3s allows for a larger pinion to balance out speed and torque without overheating. I’ve run 18T for bashing and 21T for pavement runs.

+1 on that. A max 8 is much closer to a MMX where as the sc8 is somewhere in between a sidewinder 4 and a mamba x.

I have a HW SC8. I have run a bunch of motors with it. Traxxas/Castle 3670 2400kv, Kershaw Designs 3674 2700kv ,Velenion 3655 3500kv and now a RC Gearshop 4074 2150kv. All have seen 3s and everything except the Traxxas 3500 has seen 4s......the esc has never flinched. For me it's a great bang for the buck esc!!

Great to hear. Still deciding between a leopard 3674 in 2400 or 2650 kv or a hobbystar 4068 2600 kv. Leaning towards the Leopard due to the lighter weight.
If you are not doing any sort of racing, my vote is the 4068
The larger can motors provide some nice torque, but like you mentioned weight is a concern.
+1
If your not racing, the larger can will likely also trend towards running cooler.
Of all those I listed that 4074 is the torque monster...backflips at will. With that said, my favorite is that Kershaw 3674 2700kv...geared the same(20/50) it is fast on 3s and stupid fast on 4s! Shame it's no longer available but I'll bet that Leopard is very comparable. Leopard has some very interesting motor choices for sure. Good luck and keep us posted on your choice!
