Got my boy a rustler brushed 4×4. Just got out and set up. Has a whining noise coming from motor I think when give throttle starts right when start pulling on throttle and continues when tire start spinning. Does it both in reverse and forward doesn't stop whining till let off throttle. Is it normal any help would be great
It's been a while since my boy's Rustler 4x4 had the Brushed system in it, but IIRC, it did have a high-pitched whine to it... even as the throttle was eased on (even before the truck started to move... as the motor starts to go 'under load').
I was not able to find any GOOD videos of the sound that I'm remembering, but so long as your boy's car sounds more like these cars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kcfyV_ITlQ
than this car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1Jjsi27_GE&t=28s or this motor (pre WD40... which I would not call a fix, mind-you): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojJghjbAAVc
you are probably OK :-)
I imagine others will chime in with their opinions, also. --BillJ
It's normal for the slipper-clutch to whine while it slips. Maybe it's too loose so it's slipping too easily?
slipper clutch might be loose. You're supposed to hear a high pitch scream on throttle starts, but should only last a second or so
Q: Does the motor spin and then the tires spin shortly thereafter - like an auto clutch slipping. Or do the tires spin as soon as the motor starts up? If #1 then the slipper clutch may be too loose. If #2 then the mesh between the pinion and spur is too tight.

You pull the trigger and the noise starts tires do not move. Give it more throttle then tires start to spin. But noise still seems be there just cant here as well the more throttle give because of noise from tires spinning
Definitely sounds like the slipper. Read the manual to see how to tighten it.
it's alright son, I'll fix it
Its alright son I'll fix it when you break it
