It won’t fit the Maxx hot racing aluminum steering assembly
Not using the even stiffer chrome spring that comes with the hr assembly
fabricator
ah okay - good to know.. how do you like the hr servo saver bellcrank?
my steering is actually starting to degrade so ill probably be ordering that hr kit (MXX48M01) with a stronger servo. i was going to take the 2085x from my xmaxx but probably wont now since you already broke yours in the maxx, i may go with a 10th scale servo with the adapter and see what happens.
i also broke 3 out of the 4 of my plastic driveshafts by manually self righting, luckily i forseen this and already have the steel driveshafts on the way (#8950x) NOT WIDEMAXX - i dont want a widemaxx
i went with the protek 170tbl servo and hr bellcrank
Maybe a titanium gear servo would last longer
The HR aluminum steering assembly performs excellent
The aluminum output gear teeth failed-
all other gears are still good
Something had to give - amazing wrecks/ accidents
Maxx bounces an flops - violently slams on the ground
Once you install the aluminum steering assembly and
toe links, there isn’t much give in the steering
Which is perfect for handling > not so much for durability
Sloppy steering toys don’t get played with so much

Bashed it for the first time and Ive owned quite a few Traxxas trucks, this one is good little basher. I did use gorilla tape for inside the body to protect better. Should be getting blue wide kit by mid next week.
man i got all my new hardware in but forgot the hr servo horn and arm... put me back another 4-5 days for shipping
Nice, i just did a similar upgrade, both cvd and wheels, but different wheels/tires. Have u driven the truck after the new bigger tires? Did you use a smaller pinion? My new tires are 6.3" tall. (Closest thing to 6" I could find in my LHS) I had to trim a bit of the wheel wells, but it looks good. Thomas

yeah i went to a 20t pinion from stock 24t and ive driven it a lot with the larger tires and its a lot of fun.. the larger tires give it a way more grounded stance and stability AND more air control for flips. we weary though with all that extra weight and larger diameter it will strip out those plastic driveshafts which is why i went to cvd. i haven't driven my truck with the new metal axles because i did a servo upgrade at the same time but forgot to get the aluminum arm and horn for the aftermarket servo so i'll be down for a few more days![]()
Ah, I see. I also put a smaller pinion 21t, my 20t was so worn down from my old savage with metal spur. So didn't want to use that one. Sounds good to me, haven't driven the truck yet after upgrades. Just finished putting in my mamba monster 2 ESC. Calibrated and programmed and ready to go. So I'm excited to try now with all the new stuff, wheels, steel cvd, 21t pinion, and mamba monster 2. I like castle stuff, always did. Thanks for the reply. Thomas
Finally got it figured out. I had to use a servo horn from a erevo2 to for the smaller servo

How’s the 2085x servo holding up? I plan on getting one for my maxx. I don’t want to hassle with a smaller servo and trying to figure out which servo arm and horn combo to use.
Edit: After looking at the specs of the protek 170tbl I just may have to go that route. Lol! 600oz. of torque?!! So, what servo arm and linkage would I need to fit that servo into my maxx? Can someone help? Thanks!

Hot racing servo linkage for an aluminum one
Stock Maxx servo linkage used on Maxx’s and Xmaxx’s here
The 2085 Xmaxx servo with the 2087x metal servo gear set work well
Wore out a few sets of stock plastic steering turnbuckles - then upgraded to turnbuckles
Servo Started popping past the left servo mount screw
The design gives Very little material for the screw to hold the servo -or adapter
Need 3D printed design a mount/clamp for over the servo
The Other stock Maxx has had NO steering issues :
Second servo saver being used now

Went out and bought a brand new Maxx, Wide Maxx Kit and a new 4s Lipo to go with it. Got home put battery on the charger, unboxed the truck and proceeded to install the wide kit. Kits done. Grab the fully charged battery, turned on the truck, pull full throttle and nothing! Truck stutters then starts to move slowly. Spent an hour on the phone with traxxas support. Turns out the ESC is bad. No big deal they’ll send out a new one. Except they wanted me to take out the esc and motor and send it to them before they send out the replacement. That’s bull crap. If I spend big bucks on a new toy I’m not going to watch it sit on the shelf in pieces for 2 weeks while I wait for the new parts. After a lot of arguing my new esc will be here by Monday.

That’s a bummer but you have to consider they need to protect themselves as there are some out there that could and probably have claimed an issue when there is none so that they have a spare and refuse to send in the “bad” one.
The Super Derecho
I installed the Traxxas steel axles and 17mm adapters. Also installed a Sidewinder 8th esc. $100 for the esc and I couldn’t be happier. Still on the stock motor. Bashes through two 4s 5000 batteries in the 94 degree temp up here in New Hampshire, motor and esc still cool enough to touch.

I met a buddy in the forest preserve and did the 3rd run on my new Maxx. (3S) We ran in a nice clearing under the trees. I'm quite impressed with it; the drivetrain is very quiet; suspension is plush. I've got a pair of 4S packs on the way for it now.
